Splinterlands - Just getting started with Rentals | Is rental good for you?

For the past few weeks, we would have heard many good things about the rental market from many people. I have been hearing the same from many people. It is not only beneficial for people who are renting but also for people who are placing their cards for rent. Both the parties are getting a good profit out of it from the rental market. I have been spending a decent amount of time in the last few days to understand more about the rental market and have started renting the cards that I have not been using.

Initially, I started renting only the cards that I was not using in the game. Then I found out that I was able to get around 500-1000 DEC per day for my unused cards and then decided to rent all my cards in the market. Right now I have placed almost all my cards that are level 2 and above in the market for rentals. Some of my cards are now in cooldown because of the undelegation and I guess it will soon get rented after the cooldown is over. I have placed the price of the cards a little below the market value. So there is a high chance that my cards would be rented soon.

Cards are not affordable for purchase but renting is affordable

I guess with the number of players joining the team every day, there is a huge demand for the cards. People rent them from the market for a cheap price and use them to play the game. The new players cannot purchase any cards from the market. For people holding packs, now is not the right time to open the packs. The reason is because their SPS airdrop will be affected.

Some people might think that they can stop playing and leave their cards for rent in the market. That is not a good idea. As it is a good opportunity for the cards holders, it is also a great opportunity for the players as well. People can now purchase spellbooks on multiple accounts and rent cards and try playing the game. If you are part of a guild, that gives an added advantage as well. So playing is equally profitable than just renting the cards. I understand that renting can give a good passive income but playing can give a lot more than that if the players have enough time to play the game.

Renting is only for people who don't have time to play

I strongly believe that renting is only for people who have extra cards in hand and also for people who don't have time to play their account. The reason is that the rewards from daily quests and daily playing are definitely better than renting. There are a few reasons for that.

  • Not all the cards placed in the market for rent are rented.

  • More people are renting so it is unlikely that our card will be rented by someone.

  • The more cards available for rent in the market, the DEC per day will also keep reducing

  • Players can easily get lots of better cards from the market for a cheap price.

  • We might be able to get better cards based on our luck in the quest rewards and season end rewards which may not be the case with the renting. Renting gives a variable standard income and not a luck factor there.

The above are some of the reasons I think one should go with playing instead of renting cards. I personally don't have time to play the game and that is one of the strongest reasons why I wanted to rent out my cards. I used using a TS account and I was getting a small DEC share from that account. Now I stopped using the TS account and have started renting because renting gives a better earning than TS at least for now. I don't think this will be the case forever but if the market starts stabilizing, then I guess I might have to get back to hiring a player who can play my account.

It is a mix. I do rent out and that gives me around 600 dec per day. I still play because the only cards I do place on the rental market are double one or the cards I don’t use!
