Eating less to live longer
Longevity is an excellent thing. Our ancient scriptures in India say that people lived more than 100 years easily about 2000 years ago. There was evidence that Kings were very strong and were able to fight big battles all alone. Longevity is also something that is related to food and lifestyle. The life expectancy has increased recently with all the modern medicines we have. But what would have been the secret before 2000 years when the medical field was not that advanced? Do we really know that the medical field was not that advanced back then or the ancient practices had way better methods than the current and modern methods? It is a highly debatable topic and I don't want to get into that.
Food is very important for the human body and the food we consume gets converted into energy and becomes part of our body. That is why experts say that we have to be very careful while choosing our food. If we choose the wrong food, there is a high chance that we might trouble our body so much and reduce our lifespan indirectly. Food that we eat should be a balanced one and shouldn't have more calories that we wouldn't be burning. Experts say that if we don't burn the calories well, it gets deposited inside our body and makes it challenging to maintain the body.
In this article, I'm going to share two important secrets to live longer. Some of these secrets were shared by people who did live a long and healthy life. It has been a practice for a very long time.
80 percent of the stomach
One of the biggest reasons for all the health-related problems is the food we consume and how we consume our food. Digestion starts from the mouth and we have to mix our food with Saliva before we take it to the stomach. It is believed that we have to consume only up to 80 percent. When we are having our food and if we know we are getting full, we have to stop right there. Eating more than our capacity can create belly fat and also a drowsy feeling where we will find it hard to stay after our meal and throughout the day.
I remember my parents saying that we shouldn't fill the stomach fully with food. Some space should be left over empty and some space should be left to fill with water. Drinking a lot of water is also not good because it will dilute the digestive enzymes secreted in the stomach. Leaving the remaining part empty is good because it will give some space for the food particles to move around the stomach if required so that it can aid digestion.
If we eat only 80 percent, the energy levels will also be balanced out and at the same time, there will be less strain on our stomach during digestion. If we eat beyond the 80 percent capacity, sometimes the food would get pushed through the intestines in a hurry and the absorption will not be smooth.
Less calories and more energy
Detoxification and regeneration of cells play a vital role in keeping our body young. If we have good detoxification and regeneration in our body, we will be able to produce good cells and that would keep the body healthy. It is believed that giving the body the calories that it requires is always better than giving more than what is required. This way there is no big strain on digestion and the regeneration of cells is also not disturbed. I personally have experienced that if I eat less healthy food, I feel more energetic compared to the days when my tummy is really full.
