My dear friends, I am taking you on a virtual journey through my country.
One of the most beautiful Serbian mountains, the wooded and mysterious Tara, relies on the branches of Zlatibor, from where it stretches further towards the Drina and the border with BiH. Nature has generously endowed this mountain, so we can meet and get to know the real wealth of flora and fauna. It is located at an altitude of about 1100 meters and offers its guests peace and enjoyment in the clean mountain air.
Near Mitrovica is the Carpet of Meadows, a peat bog several thousand years old. The name owes its softness as it bends underfoot. It has been formed since the Ice Age and is an unavoidable part of visiting Tara for all those who want to get to know the forces of nature and its unusual desires.
One of the most attractive places on Tara is the lookout Banjska stena, which offers a fantastic view of Lake Perućac and the magnificent canyon of the most beautiful Serbian river, the Drina.
At the foot of Tara is the river Vrelo, one of the shortest and most beautiful in Europe, which due to its length of exactly 365 meters is also called the river Godina.
Whatever time of year you decide to visit Zlatior, you won't go wrong. Simply, there is always something going on here. The winter months are reserved for numerous winter sports, spring for long walks through the flowery Zlatibor pastures, summer for the numerous events held here, and autumn for enjoying the picturesque landscapes of golden colors.
I am taking you now to Sremske Karlovce. A small place of 9000 inhabitants. Sremski Karlovci has a rich cultural and historical story, which dates from the Roman period. Since then, wines that have reached world fame, such as the widely known Bermet, have been produced in Sremski Karlovci and on Fruška gora.
Bermet wine has achieved world fame. Since the 3rd century AD, as some written documents claim, it has been produced on Fruška Gora. The monks justified the production of bermet by saying that this aromatic wine, with about twenty herbs and spices, was actually used as a medicine. Wines have been drunk here for hundreds of years and have reached world fame, and the vine was brought to these parts by the emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus in Roman times. Karlovac wines are also served in European capitals, from the court in Vienna, through the Czech Republic and Poland, Switzerland, Belgium and Moldova, to pubs in London. It is known that Karlovac wines were drunk on the famous "Titanic". Even Empress Maria Theresa spent several days a year on Fruška Gora to enjoy this famous wine. Our famous scientist Nikola Tesla appreciated and considered Bermet to stimulate intellectual abilities, while many believe that he has aphrodisiac power.
