"Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan."
Trans: "The youth is the hope of the country."
Those are the words of our very own national hero, Dr. Jose Protasio Rizal. I used to just laugh this saying seeing how some of the young Filipinos behave on the internet. But the situation right now in the province of Philippines, Cagayan Valley made me change my mind.
As a lot of people here in Read.Cash probably know, the Philippines is struggling and in a critical situation wherein a province is literally close to sinking. And the government isn't really taking this too seriously.
However, the Filipino youth managed to send awareness, relief and donations on their own ways to help our co-Filipinos. For a moment, senseless, useless and immature contents disappeared in our Facebook feeds and replacing ut with donation drives, commision for a cause and even spreading of emergency hotlines.
On our very own, we, the youth of the Philippines managed to make a movement this big without the help of the government. Plus the cancellation of the bidding to use the funds for sending help to the typhoon victims.
I don't usually write or even share my opinion about the government. But this situation made me believe that our votes, voices and complaints really matter. This isn't only for the Filipinos but also for the recent election in USA wherein the eligible and active youth voters increased to about 3%-4%.
Slowly, let us make our world a better home for us. We will be the hope of our countries. Let us all claim it.
For the Filipino users, please do continue sharing awareness and spreading emergency hotlines on your social media accounts until we are sure that no one is left behind in the area.
