It is said that trees are the lungs of the earth and we are methodically damaging the lungs part by part. Now it has become one of the biggest natural problem for us. During the last 100-200 years there has been deforestation in a massive scale to make way for human habitation and cultivation. We all know at what dangerous rate we are losing the amazon rain forests each day.
There are few countries in the world that have gone beyond ‘expected capacity’ to make things right, Kenya being one of them. Kenya banned plastic bags in 2017 – credit goes to a 44-year old Kenyan, Teddy Kinyanjui. He invented a new and very innovative method of reforestation and afforestation.
He invented Seedballs! Now what exactly are seedballs and how are they so effective? Well, let me break it down for you.
We all know and understand how important trees are for us and how they replenish the entire Ecosystem.
Teddy has innovated the seedballs in such a way, that they are covered in ‘charcoal dust’ mixed with nutrients to protect them from any animal, insect or extreme temperatures. They are mechanized in such a way that they simply work on the principle of ‘throw and grow’. All you need to do is throw them and wait until the rain arrives and it simply starts to grow.
>"One seedball has the potential to grow another million trees
because if it becomes a mother tree in one area that's been
over-exploited and very degraded, it will start re-seeding some
of these places," explains Teddy<
.
I personally believe that it is an environment conserving marvel and every country should support his cause, let’s accept that if we ignore how imbalanced nature has become because of us, we are going to be in a huge trouble and we leave nothing for the coming generations.
>“We do not inherit Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children”
is a beautiful African proverb and true to its origin, Kenya is giving its
best to keepsake what their ancestors taught them and they taught them well.
Nice article , it is very informative , UN should support hus cause and not just them but all of us who are expploiting mother earth
