In this fast moving world, everyone is busy from morning till night. Everyone is running against time and moving towards achieving targets, both in work and personal relations. Everything is cut throat and emotions take a back seat. Is it the right way to live? but now particularly for the younger generation it is the only way to live Everyone is ready to sacrifice there emotions to reach the top of the pyramid of success.
We are always in the state of dis-ease. The road from ease to dis-ease ends with disease, particularly lifestyle diseases and stress.
Our genes, disease causing viruses and bacteria’s, pollution of environment, bad diet can cause a host of diseases but our mind and emotions also play a role in controlling or aggravating these diseases. The body gives us signals through our feelings and emotions that something is wrong. It’s not the stress but how we manage stress is important. Our emotions play a major role in managing stress both in our relationships and work place.
Now a day’s many of us fail to understand our own emotions because it is a feeling and not expressed in words. Sometimes our mind fails to register these emotional signals as the mind is busy in the rat race. That is the reason we tend to suppress our feelings, emotions and painful thoughts and keep ourselves busy with other things. But as we ignore these things, it comes back with time in a more potent form.
Many of us develop headache due to excessive work load, or palpitation of heart due to over exhaustion and even ulcers and tumors due to binge eating due to stress of work. Therefore it is necessary that we pause and try to understand what these symptoms are trying to tell us.
Firstly we need to pay attention to what our body and mind is trying to say to us. Whenever there is a body- mind imbalance it should be taken note of rather than ignored. Our emotions are just like a biofeedback mechanism. Workers and executives in high stress environment need to understand that the tension fatigue restlessness and the occasional emotional outbursts are all the signals of dis-ease. Identifying these emotions will make him sit up and take notice of it at the right time. If one doesn’t pay attention to it or knowingly ignores it then it will manifest in the form of some disease or burn out.
Once the situation is acknowledged then comes the stage of connecting with and assessing the intensity of the damage. In this he can get feedback from his close friends and colleagues or he can assess it himself. Sometimes when we are late in paying attention then the damage may be serious. It often leads to mental breakdown, high blood pressure and other diseases where on needs medicine for the whole life to even a burn out where his work performance goes down and may get fired from his job also. So getting the emotional signals and timely action are a must.
Once we have paid attention to it and also assessed the damage then we should express our emotions in a controlled way to deal with it. By expressing our emotion I mean that we need to seek help rather than hide them. In some cases our close persons may be taken into confidence because they are the one who will be noticing the change more closely. They can be used as a good outlet to discuss our problems and emotional disturbances. Some cases may require the intervention of a psychologist or a psychiatrist even. People now days are shy or afraid of opening up to others. But if that is not done then the situation may aggravate very fast. Previously diseases like heart attack and diabetes were thought to be diseases of older age but now days it is so common among the younger generation.
It is true that we cannot avoid the lifestyle which is prevalent in the society as we are part of it and have to survive in it. But this is the least we can and have to do to keep us distressed and disease free in the prime working years of our life. When we keep ourselves connected with the internal compass then we get the timely feedback. Thereafter the only requirement is to pay attention to it, connect and asses the intensity of it and express ourselves.
Excellent article, the current generation is actually facing this situation. But the silence in comments section is surprising. No views no comments.
