The existence of political parties is essential in a modern democratic state. After all, the basic foundation of modern democracy is the party system and the political party is its lifeblood. Modern democracy is a representative democracy. At present, the population of the state is as huge as the size. So now the people can no longer govern directly. They participate in the administration of affairs through elected representatives. And without a party system, representative democracy is unimaginable. Although the importance of political parties is felt more in the representative democratic system or parliamentary system, in fact in modern times almost all types of governance can be termed as pa arty system. Dictatorship or authoritarian rule is also party rule. Because there is no alternative to the party system to organize a public opinion in favor of the regime. Although the party system is important, it has some drawbacks. In a previous article, I tried to discuss or write about the importance of political parties in a democracy. In this article, I am trying to highlight some of the faults or shortcomings of the political party
Contrary to national unity:
The party system is against national unity. If there are many political parties in the country, there is a danger that national unity will be disrupted. Because the people of the country are divided into groups as supporters of different political parties. Party members are inspired by narrow-mindedness. They think only of the interests of their party in exchange for the national interest. Which is an obstacle in the way of national unity.
Loss of national interest:
The national interest is also disrupted in the party system. The parties are always busy with narrow party interests. As a result, the national interest is neglected. Even in many cases, party interests are given priority over national interests. Opposition parties, out of habit or hatred, also obstruct the welfare efforts of the ruling party. This also causes irreparable damage to the national interest.
The moral values of society are degraded:
In groups to achieve party interests in any way. Lies and various dishonest ways. Again, the rich and vested interests of the country also try to use the parties in various dishonest ways to save the interests of the class. In this way corruption, lies, deception, etc. are indulged. This pollutes the political climate of the country and degrades the moral values of the country.
Many able and wise people cannot take part in governance:
Due to the party system, many knowledgeable and deserving people of the country are deprived of the opportunity to participate in governance. Because the majority party forms the government and runs the government. As a result, skilled and experienced individuals from minority groups cannot participate in governance. Moreover, many wise and learned people do not want to get involved in the corruption of the party system. As a result, the country is deprived of the services of many deserving and wise people.
Destruction of personality occurs:
Another serious allegation against the party system is that it is against individual freedom. The personal judgment of the party members and supporters - the intellect and the supernatural - has to surrender to the party policy and direction. He has to be expelled from the party for disobeying party instructions or criticizing party policy. As a result, every member of the party has to follow the will of the party without any hindrance by giving up his own will and reluctance. This hinders the development of the individual's self-esteem and leads to the immortality of the personality.
People are confused:
In the party system, the ultimate goal of each party is to achieve a majority based on popular support and to form a government. For this purpose, the parties conducted various campaigns in favor of their interests. They serve a variety of information such as truth, untruth, half-truth, etc. In this way, the parties blame each other and even give various false deceptions to the selectors in the parties. As a result, people became confused. As a result, they cannot make the right decision during the election of representatives.
Government party bias:
Instead of qualifying in the party system, supporters of the ruling party get priority in gaining jobs and other government favors. Government parties appoint their party members without judging their qualifications in various government posts. It reduces the efficiency of the government and on the other hand, it creates frustration and dissatisfaction among the deserving people.
In a modern democracy, political parties are the lifeblood of democracy. And with time, the party system has changed and strengthened its position. So even if there are some flaws in the party system, its quality is more acceptable.
