Corbin Fraser, strategic crypto advisor for Joystick.club
Corbin Fraser has been supporting Joystick.club behind the scenes since the very early days. When Joystick.club began as a small hackathon project in September 2020, we were building a block breaker game on layer 1 Bitcoin Cash that users had to pay BCH in order to play. We saw that Bitcoin.com had recently launched an API called Bitcoin.com Link, to support project creators in being able to build complementary dapps which could end up being included inside of the Bitcoin.com app.
We had seen first hand the adoption of 3rd party apps and games in applications such as WeChat, LINE, Facebook, and more. Our goal in those early days was to just get a single game out that could demo arcade style gaming on Bitcoin Cash and do everything we could to get included into the Bitcoin.com app. We spoke with Corbin about this idea during the hackathon and right off the bat he was excited and extremely supportive. He too was a huge fan of arcade style gaming and loved the idea of micro-transactions. Corbin's support, along with his wallet team's, allowed us to get the first version of Joystick.club built and demo'd during the hackathon which won us a runner up prize. Unfortunately the project wasn't exactly ready for inclusion into the Bitcoin.com Wallet, but we continued to work evenings and weekends to get it there.
During those early days, it often seemed that everyone in the Bitcoin Cash space was more excited about protocol enhancements, and privacy centric projects and less about our consumer facing idea around an arcade built on top of Bitcoin Cash. We spoke to several "BCH influencers" in the space and were often left feeling rejected and ignored, or told that the idea was flat out dumb. Setbacks became part of our story. We were confident that we were onto something and during our chats with Corbin he continued to stress to ignore the nerd stuff, ignore the drama, ignore other influencers ideas of what they think YOU should build, and just build something you and your friends would want to use.
Corbin was also the person who recommended we try to build token reward mechanisms into the game. P2E (play to earn) was just beginning to take off on Ethereum, and he recommended we explore that idea. Thus began our rewrite to integrate SLP (Simple Ledger Protocol), the token system on BCH L1. We launched the JOY token alongside our Flipstarter (which eventually failed). More setbacks. Still, we continued to build and release enhancements. By this point we had 3 games out on joystick.club, and were rewarding **100 JOY** per play *(worth approximately $3.10 at todays rate)* for a small **$0.25** payment in BCH. We finally had a stable release, and shared it with Corbin to review. His ios and android teams helped do some QA and just like that. We were included inside the Bitcoin.com app in the discovery section.

A major update on smart.joystick.club just went out! 💫 https://smart.joystick.club
⚠️Please ensure you clear your Metamask mobile browser cache, or your desktop browser cache to ensure you are loading the most up to date version of website.
**Updates include:**
🎉 **Improved Leaderboard** - From now on when you start games, you will be prompted for your leaderboard name. Each play will be saved to that name. This will ensure submissions to leaderboard aren’t missed for weekly rewards.
🚂 **Optimized rewards** - Due to the growth on Joystick.club,rewards were taking days in many cases. We’ve optimized the reward script for faster payouts by creating a 6 hour reward train. The new reward train leaves the station every 6 hours and will batch send the total amount owed to gamers in a single transaction. This resolves the limit of 72 tx per hour and clears the queue much more consistently.
*Example: Bob plays 50 times during his morning coffee (within 6 hour window), previously Bob would have created a small queue - which when multiplied by* 400 *gamers, got long. Now instead we combine the total amount owed to Bob into 1 transaction per 6 hour window, leaving more room on the train for other gamers. This ensures more users are included in the reward train.*
🏆**New Dashboard** - We’ve launched a new dashboard that allows you to view your total plays on smart.joystick.club, total JOY earned, total JOY paid to date, total JOY outstanding, as well as a breakdown of total plays per game. There is also a detailed history of your recent plays and amount earned and a status related to the queue and when the next train is departing. As well as how much JOY you will receive in the next reward train.

According to plan - Joystick.club migrates 898,209 JOY from SLP to SEP20
As according to plan, as we previously explained in our JOY Token Sale article. Today the team behind Joystick.club migrated a huge amount of JOY from SLP to SmartBCH. This was done by burning `898,209 JOY-SLP` on BCH Layer 1 from the bridge *BURN_WALLET* and Minting `898,209 JOY-SEP20` on SmartBCH sidechain. *Transaction details below.* https://read.cash/@amalektricity/joystickclub-token-sale-details-25e8b65c
The most used bridge for Joystick.club users has been the SpiceTippingBot which allows people bridge as little as 5 JOY as of November 20, 2021. The Spice team, along with the Paytaca team, helped us setup an easy to use method for users to move their JOY-SLP tokens into our burn only wallet, which lives inside the Paytaca App. Their bot would then repay the user 1:1 in JOY-SEP20. https://www.paytaca.com/
As a result, we've accumulated `898,209 JOY-SLP` worth an estimated ~$76,000 USD at todays rate. Nearly 50% of all JOY that was remaining on SLP will now been migrated to SmartBCH. Making us way ahead of schedule. We expected the SLP migration to perhaps take nearly a couple of years, but it turns out we underestimated the timeframe.

As a result of this tremendous growth, we are **1-2 years ahead of our schedule**. We have nearly completed another roadmap milestone, which was to migrate all of the SLP tokens to SEP20 SmartBCH. However, the smartBCH version of Joystick.club is still in development. In addition, our admin wallets have rewarded 99.99% of the JOY SLP tokens that we are in control of. That's right. We ran out of JOY-SLP to give away.
That means there are currently only ~200,000 JOY-SLP in circulation. We expect most of that will be bridged in time. Though some may be lost, forgotten, or ignored, just as Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Ethereu

Users who play Joystick.club on Layer1 BCH will now begin earning a new SLP token. This token will only be rewarded on Bitcoin Cash layer one and NOT on SmartBCH. This is a great opportunity for our gamers who joined Joystick.club late, to begin all over again.
**What is** ⭐**POINTS (PTS)?**
Users who play games, **earn points**. It's as simple as that. You do well in your game, you can see your points in the game. We reward PTS based on your performance in game, just like JOY. The in-game points you score will not match 1:1 with the PTS you earn. However we will ensure a fair points reward is calculated and given out to gamers.

⭐**PTS will have 3 forms of utility:**
**Proof of skill** - Users who have lots of POINTS (PTS) on SLP, are inherently more skillful gamers.
**Bridge token to Governance** - Users gaming on BCH with SLP can bridge their POINTS (PTS) to the SmartBCH Network to exchange PTS for JOY and increase the weight of their governance vote, pending governance tooling on smartBCH. We will be working with our friends at SpiceBot to handle the bridging of 1:1 slp-sep20 tokens.
**Tipping token** - As the price of $JOY has increased steadily, users are less likely to tip and reward in the token of higher value. POINTS (PTS) make it easier to tip larger amounts on telegram, twitter, or p2p.
**NFT Prizes** - Use your collected PTS (SEP20) to participate in Joystick.club Prizes. New series will be released regularly allowing users to spend their PTS on prizes such as collectibles, art, in game upgrades, and more.

Poolside Puffer Pound
In this game, *you* are hosting a beach party. But those pesky Poolside Puffers keep showing up to drink all of your beer and ruin your party. Pound the Puffers to keep them out of your party, but be careful! Watch out for bombs and sharks, both of which will cost you a life! Each play will give you 5 tries at the game to compete for the top leaderboard position. Each try provides 3 hearts, giving you enough time to get familiar with the game and truly excel and shoot for the maximum JOY token reward.
The game is simple! If you've ever played a whack-a-mole game. Just get ready to hit fish, and be careful. The game gets harder the longer you play.
As we build out smartBCH integration to all of our games, we plan to let users use their NFT's when we can. In this game's case, the idea would be to allow users to include one of their Puffers into the game. Further enhancements like this will come after the initial smartBCH build is released.
2nd Halving Event Begins Now
In our post about the JOY token details, we discussed Halving events. These are events in which the amount of the maximum reward given to players is reduced to reduce the rate of inflation. Early versions of Joystick.club had many "suicide farmers", which were users who chose to die and earn rewards, in lieu of playing. As we optimized our platform to require minimum gameplay and a progressive reward system based on skill, the inflation was slowed down enough. Current Platform Holdings
At this point, a large majority of the JOY tokens have been bridged to SmartBCH. Less than 1 million JOY tokens exist on SLP, and only a fraction of those are in admin wallets. Most are either in user wallets, or locked in bridge wallets.
Rewards will continue on the SmartBCH version of Joystick.club, but we are still some time away from releasing that version. The JOY (SLP) which is controlled by the Joystick.club admins and able to be used currently for gamer rewards is `~177,000 JOY (SLP)`. Our system pays out anywhere from 20,000 - 50,000 JOY-SLP per day depending on player activity. As a result, we have at best 1 week of SLP rewards left unless we make drastic changes as admins to the project.
New Maximum and Minimum Rewards Per Play
In order to ensure rewards continue to go out to users while we build SmartBCH integration, and to reduce the rate of inflation further, the maximum reward and minimum reward has been halved.
**New Maximum Reward:** `25 JOY`
**New Minimum Reward:** `5 JOY`
These changes will be applied to all games at launch of Poolside Puffer Pound around Saturday November 13, 2021.
What are the impacts to reducing rewards?
Well for one, it ensures that users will continue to receive rewards while we build out smartBCH integration. If we continue at this pace we will run out of rewards to give. This is why regular halvings were planned when we created this project. This is a natural part of the the economics of our platform.
Another thing to consider - is that if less people receive as many rewards, that could reduce the sell pressure as there will be less SLP bridged to SEP20 to sell on dex's. This could have a positive impact on the price per JOY, but I am unqualified to make any predictions on price of tokens on secondary markets. Please do your own research.
What happens when JOY runs out on SLP?
Since the launch of our SEp20 JOY token, our goal was to migrate all of our JOY (SLP) tokens over to SmartBCH and support the growing sidechain on BCH. We also expect many, if not most, of users to migrate and begin using the SmartBCH version. Though much of this depends on wallets integrating SmartBCH which is out of our control. We are hopeful though that Bitcoin.com Wallet will support it soon, but we have not received any confirmations.
What has become apparent based on gamer feedback, and based on testing things with our devs. Metamask gaming might be fine on desktop, but their Mobile Wallet App is very slow compared to Bitcoin.com Wallet. Many users also enjoy having the SLP token.
As a result, prior to Joystick.club running out of JOY-SLP to reward users. We will be minting a **new** SLP token, so that even if JOY is gone from the SLP network, there will still be a reward to claim for SLP gamers. Looking at the tremendous success of Axie Infinity which has more than one token, we are confident we can build a system which supports gamers on layer1 or smartBCH. JOY Tokenomics
JOY token is a reward and governance token for gamers to earn by playing games on Joystick.club. We want gamers and holders of our token to aide in the decision making of our platform. As governance platforms like snapshot.page emerge on SmartBCH, it will become possible for staked JOY holders to participate in governance and vote on proposals such as new games, reward mechanisms, partnerships, etc.
JOY currently has a total supply of `4 million tokens`. At present there exists **2 million tokens on SLP token protocol**, and **2 million tokens exist as SEP20 tokens on SmartBCH**. There will never be more than 4 million tokens in existence. Our game platform has built in progressive reduction in rate of inflation to reduce too many JOY tokens being released into the circulating supply at once while supporting project growth. As this project matures, the total supply will be reduced through token burns, *see Deflation*.
Our goal is to migrate all (or as many) SLP tokens to SEP20 token over the course of 3 years. For the time being, we will continue to support SLP, but we suspect SEP20 will become the dominant token standard on Bitcoin Cash in time. SLP tokens at present moment however are the most widely adopted within the Bitcoin Cash community. We're grateful for the work around SLP and will support this standard as long as it remains feasible.
In order to accommodate the 1M JOY token sale, we will be burning 1M tokens on SLP, and minting 1M tokens SEP20 tokens on SmartBCH to keep the total supply of 4 million tokens constant. The 1M JOY (SLP) tokens all originate from our admin wallet, which we use to seed our production wallet to reward users JOY tokens. The burn and mint transactions will be shared in our public telegram and on Twitter for public accountability. Following that, our SLP Mint Baton will be burned to prevent additional JOY from being created. This burn transaction will be shared with the community as well.
Inflation - Gamers are "miners"
Much in the same way that Bitcoin Cash miners create new coin, Joystick.club gamers help increase the circulating supply of JOY by unlocking rewards form the production wallets (funded by admin wallet) through game play. At present, this is done through a two part process:
**1. Play game and earn JOY (SLP)**
Users play any game on Joystick.club and complete a minimum required amount gameplay in game to be eligible for a floating reward. See *Reward Mechansim below for more details*.
**2. Users bridge JOY (SLP) to JOY (SEP20) and increase supply on SmartBCH**
Users can choose to bridge their JOY (SLP) to JOY (SEP20) through two bridges. We have partnered with @Spicetippingbot to support instantly bridging funds over. Bridged funds unlock SEP20 for the user, while moving SLP into our admin wallet to be burned on a monthly basis. Users who bridge funds from SLP to SmartBCH are supporting inflation of JOY on SmartBCH while supporting deflation of JOY from the total supply. As more JOY is moved from SLP to SEP20, the total supply decreases. *See deflation section.*
Reward Mechanism
Playing games on Joystick.club allows gamers to earn JOY rewards. You may recall this type of experience IRL (in real life) at your local arcades. Play games, and you might earn some paper ticket tokens. The concept behind our platform is somewhat similar, though improvements to this system have been made which better support growing network effect and utility to our users.
**JOY Reward Halving Events**
Much like POW mining, where the coin unlocked by miners are reduced over time, the JOY reward that gamers unlock also decreases over time. The reward mechanism started at `100 JOY` per play at launch of Joystick.club.
On *October 29, 2021*, Joystick.club announced its first halving event to coincide with the launch of the SLP to SEP20 bridge. Maximum rewards per game play were reduced to `50 JOY` tokens. As of *November 2, 2021*, further enhancements to the game platform have been added to ensure `Max Reward: 50 JOY` is awarded to users who are exceptional gamers. This provides added incentive for gamers to practice more and get further in the game. Gamers who die too early may get a consolation prize of only `10 JOY`. If the gamer is intermediate they may receive any number between `10 - 50 JOY` depending on their skill level. This helps prevent our gamers from flooding the SEP20 market with JOY too quickly as the project is in its infancy. This also helps reduces the incentive for gamers to "*suicide farm"* rewards.
Regular halving events will occur to reduce the rate of inflation to the circulating supply. During the early phases of this project, halving events will be more frequent to reduce the rate of inflation to the circulating supply, which reduces the supply of tokens being bridged from SLP to SmartBCH. Halving events will become more infrequent as the project ages. These halving events will be introduced initially by our Admin team. As governance tools become available on smartBCH, that decision will be brought to governance vote.
**Proof of Gamer (POG)**
As the Joystick.club platform is enhanced, the reward mechanism will be optimized to ensure the maximum reward is only awarded to those with the most exceptional gaming prowess. Earn less points, or complete less levels, and you may only get a fraction of the maximum reward. These enhancements further support reducing the rate of inflation, and encourage users to actively compete for the top leaderboard positions.
**Leaderboard Rewards**
As part of Joystick.club, our platform allows gamers to submit their name and score to our game leaderboards. Gamers with the top leaderboard position will become elligible for bonus JOY rewards. Our backend will reward the #1 position on each game's leaderboard with a bonus JOY reward on a weekly basis. Leaderboards also contain a tip capability, allowing other observers and gamers to tip the top five (5) positions a small amount of BCH to congratulate them on their top spot. Gamer's might also tip users who appear to be challenging the #1 position to help fund their journey to the top. The leaderboard increases the rate of inflation by very little, while supporting community engagement and friendly competition.
**BCH Airdrops to SLP Holders**
Users who decide to keep their JOY tokens on SLP are elligible to BCH airdrops. 50% of net profit generated Joystick.club gameplay (~$0.25 per play) will be airdropped on a monthly basis to JOY (SLP) holders. This feature helps provide users more utility for their JOY (SLP) tokens while they accumulate enough to decide whether they want to bridge tokens to SmartBCH. Airdrops will be distributed entirely in Bitcoin Cash using the Bitcoin.com Dividend Calculator. Deflation
There is not a fixed rate of deflation within JOY tokens. However, we have built rules and incentives to support deflation of the total supply of JOY over time. These deflationary methods will make JOY tokens more scarce, and in theory, provide them with more value to the community. The deflationary means are as follows:
**1. SLP to SEP20 SmartBCH Bridging**
Gamers who earn JOY token rewards and choose to convert their JOY tokens from SLP to SEP20 SmartBCH tokens will be reducing the total supply.
*Example: Alice earns 1000 JOY by playing 20 games (50 JOY reward each). Alice uses one of the two bridging methods (spicetokenbot or bridge.joystick.club) and sends her 1000 SLP tokens to the bridge. Alice receives 1000 SEP20 tokens on SmartBCH. The admin of Joystick.club receives those 1000 SLP tokens into a "burn only" wallet. The admin will burn all JOY (SLP) sent to that wallet on a monthly basis, sharing the amount and txid to the community. Total supply can be seen by viewing the token contracts for SLP and SEP20 in the notes at the end of this document.*
*Note: Bridged SLP token burning will commence after the token sale is complete*
**2. NFT Prizes**
One of the funnest parts of visiting an arcade was accumulating reward tokens and trading them in for a prize at the end of your visit. Joystick.club is currently in development of an NFT minting portal which is only unlocked to users who burn a "to be determined" amount of JOY (SEP20) tokens.
Users will be spending their JOY (SEP20) and some BCH to earn a one of a kind, unique NFT from the Joystick.club Prize Counter. Joystick.club emerged back in April 2020, shortly after devcon.cash 2020. By crypto terms, we're an old and trustworthy project. Gaming is a multi-billion dollar industry. Through its humble beginnings from the 70s onwards, gamers have been spending their hard earned money to enjoy some fun. Much of the growth in video games originated from Arcades. Dark rooms, cramped with electronic machines ranging from Pac-man, space invaders, to run of the mill pinball machines. While gaming evolved to home gaming consoles, online gaming, and the trend to purchase the “whole game” became the new norm. We want to bring cryptocurrency to more game developers. The best way to encourage this to happen is to build a platform in which game developers have the opportunity to earn revenue without high fees from middlemen, and show developers that low-fee microtransactions can revolutionize the gaming industry and bring in substantial profit to them as well.
☁️ Why not use Ethereum?
This project was originally created around the idea of building on Ethereum (ETH). Unfortunately, due to the rising fees, and the EVM’s inability to handle micro-transactions on layer1, we had to go elsewhere. Nobody is going to spend over $5 to play a 0.25c game. When choosing a cryptocurrency to build around, it’s critical to choose one that not only has the tools available to accomplish your goals (tokens, apis, wallets, web3.js inspired tooling), but also the network effect of users.
**Bitcoin Cash** is one of the most popular cryptocurrencies, and is the only cryptocurrency that has been built from the ground up to focus on micro-transactions and for layer1 scalability. While it may get the stink-face from the most depressed maximalists, for those who have used it, it’s impossible to say it’s not useful. I strongly believe more ETH projects, including those participating and building defi will begin to migrate to BCH as fees continue to rise and prevent sustained growth on their projects as people are priced out from participating. Defi on Bitcoin Cash is still early. With that being said, the tools exist to already create a robust governance system that allows community members to participate in the direction of Joystick.club.
