In many countries around the world, minor girls are still married to elderly men. This phenomenon is often justified by the lack of conditions on the part of the child's parents or even those who should protect them (uncles, grandparents or even their guardians).
But, this constitutes a crime.
Younger girls cannot and should not get married at an early age, their duty is to go to school, graduate and have a good job. This is the correct way to be able to take care of the parents and not going through the direct line, like contracting marriages for interest.
Liliane's story
Liliane was a girl when her parents advised her to get married. After the initiation rites she had to give in to her parents' whims as she will think at the time that she could not disobey them.
She married a 56-year-old man, and as her parents said, she would have better living conditions in marriage. But they were completely wrong.
Liliane, from the first day she arrived in that house, at the age of thirteen, was always treated with hostility. She was forced to sleep with her husband even though she was still a minor and at 14 she was already expecting her first child.
It wasn't easy for the girl to carry that baby for 9 months and it wasn't even more so when it was time for delivery. She successfully gave birth and the baby was born healthy but she was left with sequelae forever!
Liliane developed obstetric fistula
As her body was still in the development stage and shortly thereafter she had to go through a childbirth at an early age, the girl developing fistula. She also had urinary incontinence and had more bouts.
The most aggravating factor in this situation is that as she could not contain her urine, her husband threw her and her child out of the house. She could not return home as she suffered ashamed of an unsuccessful marriage.
Thank God she was welcomed into a home by Salesian Sisters who took care of her and her baby and also arranged for her to have an operation to contain her fistula and urinary incontinence. The Salesian Sisters did even more for her, they managed to make her understand that premature marriage is a crime and that her husband should be arrested as well as her parents for facilitating their marriage.
Liliane goes to school today
At thirteen she had her life sold for a bargain price, but thank God she managed to get out of that marriage and continue her studies and take care of her child.
Liliane is now completing her 11th year and in the future dreams of becoming a lawyer, as she says 'to defend other children who suffer from premature marriages'.
Conclusion
Despite being a fictional story, the article actually mirrors what happens in many countries around the world.
UNICEF protects the rights of victims of domestic abuse, children who marry prematurely and those who suffer criminal acts and are destitute.
If in your region there is this type of scenario in which parents compromise the development of their children, selling them to older people for promises of a better life, the good thing would be to denounce.
