How can Bitcoin Cash thrive in Mozambique

One of the purposes to build a Bitcoin Cash House in my location is exactly to make it happen. I know my people and I know their commitment, when the mobile wallet M-pesa arrived at the country one of the biggest problems was concerned to adoption, with many criticism around the service. That criticism came because people was just hearing about the service but at the time none of them really understood.

Like any new service it faced some biggest challenges and took almost a year to thrive in the market, today no one lives without an e-wallet on their mobiles. But the service like many other centralised services have big issues, this problems are more concerning the storage of electronic money, fees and limits to be executed daily. There is a limit on sending with fees that even the banks aren't competitors, the service is expensive and barely don't allow people to store more than 130,000 MZN= $1400 in the wallets. There's other biggest issue you need an official government document to open an account and if you reach the accumulation limit of 80,000MZN=$1000 you need to upgrade the account with the service provider.

People actually use this service because they don't have a viable alternative, with the electronic wallet it's possible to send, receive money from Bank, send cash to family with could be spent anywhere that accept the service of withdraw with local agents or just in any Ponto 24 ATM.

Besides all this advantages the wallet can't send or receive international money, it's highly controlled, it's centralised and any time users can be blocked to access the service.

But why the continue use of the M-pesa service?!

Basically no alternative to the service, people don't really trust money Banks, more than 5M isn't using any bank account, they hate to wait in queue to open a bank account or deposit money on the same. The use of M-pesa facilitate this as anyone can send money for banks with it, but the fees to execute the service is exorbitant, almost 20% more than banks charge, but without the lack of trust on Banks they prefer to continue being ripped by this service.

How Bitcoin Cash can thrive here?!

One of the main tasks of the Casa Bitcoin Cash-Moçambique, is to put this citizens aware that there's a new player on market, and the best of all no government can control it, it work on the peoples will:

  • Bitcoin Cash can be stored in decentralized wallets, controlled by the users, they are own Banks, besides being a store of value, can also work as cash to pay bills, expenses, goods without charging absurd amounts to pay to confirm the transactions on Blockchain.

  • Bitcoin Cash preserve the power of money and if the coffee cost 1 dollar it would be just a dollar charged with almost a penny in fees to transfer it to the receiver.

The adoption won't happen instantly, it will need some big efforts to make it mainstream, work to Onboard users merchants to use the coin, spread the currency importance, manage events to put people aware of Bitcoin Cash. This people just need to know that in he world there more ways to pay and receive their goods without losing money just to pay fees, which isn't healthy for countries where there are thousands of families with low income, there are even people living below $1 daily and frankly doesn't make sense to pay fees like M-pesa charge to manage people's money.

Casa Bitcoin Cash-Moçambique project is ambitious and with all the proper tools to work and expand vision to Mozambican market in few years it may be a Hub for Bitcoin Cash, all depends from work efforts and support from the Bitcoin Cash community around the world. It will be the first and most engaged Bitcoin Cash House in the country and later will connect with the biggest chain stores like Shoprite, Mimo's, Spar (with already accept Bitcoin in South Africa), car sales agents connected to Dubai and more.

Mozambique is a Tourism country with beautiful beaches, great sea view, the biggest animal parks (Gorongosa is one of the biggest one in the country and world) and much more. Imagine coming to the country and pay for a room or a meal with Bitcoin Cash in a complete unknown place, that can happen with the efforts of the Casa Bitcoin Cash-Moçambique.

"Plant a small tree today, and tomorrow it will be a great and strong one".
