Have you ever felt like giving up? Have you ever felt like all hope was lost and nothing could save you or bring you back up? Have you ever given up on your dream and thought “well, I will just shoot for the next best thing”?
Have you ever had a moment where you even felt like reaching out to someone and saying “Hey I feel like giving up, what do I do?”. Well that is kind of how I felt when I first started my journey to becoming a successful entrepreneur. Only thing is, I didn’t want to reach out to anyone for help because I felt like nobody would understand me or my pain, and what’s worse is that I too couldn’t understand myself.
But as I always say, we live and we learn and we will make mistakes and we will learn from those mistakes and move forward.
If you are one of those people who are easily discouraged by setbacks or failures, you are not alone. Many people give up when the first obstacle comes their way. Leaving their dreams unfulfilled. The feeling of giving up can creep in when our efforts don’t yield the desired results. Or, if we feel like we aren’t making much progress at all.
Through my journey as an entrepreneur, I have faced my fair share of challenges and setbacks. And I have felt like giving up on more than one occasion. But what I have come to learn is that it does not have to be that way. After going through some of my dark times, I have developed a few strategies that seem to work for me.
Successful business strategies come from the process of trial and error. The more we follow our intuition and learn from our mistakes, the more we can learn what works and what doesn’t. By following this process, we can be prepared for the unexpected and forge new paths for growth even when we feel like giving up.
The following strategies come from personal experiences with my clients and my own entrepreneurial journey. These strategies have helped me navigate through overwhelming situations:
If you’re feeling like giving up:
Focus on your vision and give it time to mature – Oftentimes we underestimate the amount of time needed for a project to truly come to fruition. It can take years, even decades, for our ideas to fully form. Patience is key to growing an idea into something bigger than what can be immediately recognized. If you aren’t patient enough to stick with the long-term vision, then it might mean that you are too attached to your immediate goals.
In conclusion, when you're in the middle of starting or growing your business, it can be hard to realize that you're already in the midst of all the things you need to do to succeed. These things include all the many, many details you have to be aware of - your customers, employees, vendors, investors, public image, competitors, partners - and also things like your life, your spouse, your family, friendships, hobbies and passions. But before you can get to all of this? You have to do one thing first.
I don't get discouraged easily. But I guess, we all get some bad days. During my downtime, I remind myself why did I start? What's my purpose? It helps a lot. Thanks for the writing,, it was a good read.
