Visiting the immigration office last week, seeing the number of people applying for passport to travel out the country really surprises me. have been pondering on a very interesting question, Is life really greener on the other side? Just to buttress this question of mine was @Jane yesterday article Grass isn’t greener on the other of the fence. Many at times it is a perception by the diaspora to believe that life is better in their so-called home country. That somehow, living in a foreign country for them is a be all and end all.

In my humble opinion, no one should wish to go to a place where they will be subjected to more agony and pain. The truth is the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Today I started putting out feelers while asking around if people would agree wholeheartedly with my views. So, of those who I ask the question, who have someone in the diaspora or have travelled out before returning home. Here are there reasons for travelling abroad job opportunities, escape a violent conflict, environmental disaster, educational purposes and finally reunite with their family members.

On getting there a lot of them faces challenges like inadequate personal support, adjusting to a different business cultures, difficulty in making new friends, language and cultural barrier, racism this mostly affects the black race, xenophobia, and to conclude the women mostly face molestation and sexual abuse.

But I have had the honor of being born in a Nation that natural wealth and also has some of the most scenic places ever. The 30+ years I spent in this lovely place also helped me realize that how much we take things for granted and how much we strive for better opportunities far from home. 30+ years later, and I'm still not sure if life is really sweeter on the other side. All will just had is poor leadership, our political leaders tends to divert the wealth of the nation to the personal account.

A lot of people have been asking that is it really greener on the other side? No one wants to leave their loved ones and friends but they do in search of greener pastures, a foreign work permit and a better lifestyle. life is better on the other side, but not always. A lot of people think this is a reality because the grass is greener on the other side, but they fail to think from different perspective. While I do agree that there are some things that are better somewhere else, that does not mean the grass is greener over there. In fact, I believe it would be more realistic if one said that what you don't have or don't see over there might actually be worse than the life you have.

My taught and take is life is greener everywhere all we just need to do is to come together confront whatever challenges our Nation is facing and fix them. Not just for our own sake but for the sake of our upcoming generations.

As long as the rulers cannot provide the expected development for their country and take steps to restrict people's freedom, the other side of the fence will always be a matter of curiosity. Managers who really care about their people are actually the only culprit of this picture. No one wants to leave their home, country or friends. All these sacrifices are for the sake of being a little more human. For this reason, how right is it to go to the other side of the fence and is it really worth the sacrifice? The answer has to do with what we risk and what we get in return.
