Ability in Disability
Every individual is different and unique. Every soul born into this world makes its presence through an ability in disability. Never look down on any one with disabilities, this is one of the greatest lessons we should learn in life.
The disabled are all created equal. They are valued, loved and supported. Whether they get support from their parent or a family member or even outside support, they are valued and loved no matter what.
Their right to live is never in question; it is worth protecting.
There was a time when the world seemed to offer very little in the way of opportunity to people with disabilities. That has changed over time, however, as many people with disabilities have proven themselves to be more than capable of achieving great things. Those same people have also had a major influence on the world at large and have often pioneered breakthroughs that have led to more opportunities for all disabled people. The list of great achievements by men and women with disabilities is extensive, and includes Nobel Prize-winning physicists and inventors of new technologies that have changed many lives for the better.
What about the future? What about the next generation of disabled people who are just now beginning to realize their potential and break out into the world in search of opportunities? What will they achieve? The answer may very well be nothing less than the ability to change the world once again — this time in ways that have yet to be foreseen.
We may not know exactly what such breakthroughs might look like, but we do know they are coming. As much as it has been possible for individuals with disabilities to achieve great things in generations past, we have just begun to scratch the surface of what is possible in this era of unprecedented connectivity and data availability.
To make this a better world for all of us, we must look at different things or ideas and see its potential.
In the case of disability, people are staring at it in disbelief. They believe that being disabled means a person is limited.
The truth is that disability makes some people more capable of doing certain jobs better and of course they should be given the chance to prove their talent.
Upholding their abilities will make them feel important and necessary. Likewise, it will give us an opportunity to put their abilities to good use for the greater good.
In the words of Abraham Lincoln, "I am fond of the saying, 'God may have created men equal, but if he did, he didn't intend for us to stay that way.
