First light - 2022! The rains stopped overnight, but 2022 and January are off to a a cool, cloudy and hazy start. We've had a spike in covid cases over the last week and it looks like the weather is looking giving us ominous vibes at the start off the year. While my everyday life is in the city, the everyday life in the village is different. I get a taste of it when we drive to Church which is situated beyond the outskirts of the city. There are fields where rice and other crops are grown. Through the year we see different stages of the crops and how much dependent on the rains they are. Is the weather today reflecting the hope for 2022? Usually the December mornings were gloomy and hazy with mist on the hills. Today, it was a little hazy very early in the morning, but by 8 am the entire sky to the left was blue and almost clear. The sun was behind clouds, but still able to appear bright. Country roads. Don't you love that song? This is the closest I get to country roads - my weekly trip to church which is beyond the outskirts of the city. Far away from the concrete jungle and dust of the city, the roads are narrow and broken, but they are more peaceful and fulfilling to drive in. In a way, they take me home!

Pretty? This is a weed that grows in one of the soil patches at our church. The rains and weather have caused a fair amount of overgrowth, and weeds abound. This is low in the ground and I'm amazed at how pretty a weed can make itself look. Those green balls are barely noticeable when you're standing or walking past. A bit of everything..... except blue skies There's the sun throwing out its warm sunshine through the clouds. There's a bit of mist over the hill. There's some haze. Floodlights on fire? I rarely catch the setting sun as it happens on the other side of my apartment. I usually see it as I ride/drive back home, but forget it as I park on the other side and get back home. Today I tried to capture the sun in the evening on the shuttle ride back home and it was highlighted against the tall floodlight of the tennis court. It looks like the floodlight was on fire. Punch a hole in the sky. This lone tree standing in the middle of some flat ground with fields and shrubs looks like it is reaching high into the sky and punching a hole through the clouds to expose the blue sky above it. Nature inspires us to the next level of imagination, eh??!!!

I'm going through some of my very old photos from about 10 years ago which showed up on Google photos as memories. I've been fascinated that in Australia I could get so close to exotic birds - like this pelican. While this one was in Cleland National Park, I have also walked with them in the wild on beaches! They are a bit scary as they can get annoyed if you get close to them. This one in the national park was more friendly though.

Sunrises behind a hill can repeat 365 days in a year and still never bore you. The weather subtly alters the way the sun looks when it rises and, every month, the position of the sun changes a little. So here is another battle between sky, clouds, sun, hill, haze and mist to start off the Tuesday. I hate having a rushed start to the day and wake up early to lounge around the kitchen or small balcony early in the morning to chill out. This little dragonfly gave me company for a few minutes and i loved watching it. It's so delicate and pretty isn't it?!! I usually see grey or, occasionally, yellow dragonflies in the garden around the buildings and it is extremely rare to see them in my 5th floor balcony. And that too this color!! Excellent start to my day!

Back to basketball at night. With covid surging again and several friends being infected, my kids can't play or go to school. So I've started taking them out to play a little basketball at night again. It's very chilly, so we try to go at 7 pm. My son started shooting hoops right away. The ball was too blurry to capture on my phone - but looks like we're back to restrictions and isolations. Sports will be a great way to vent some energy.

This is how everyday starts for me. I can view this beautiful dawn out of my bedroom window, dining room window and from the tiny balcony. Because it is a bit hazy and misty, you can only see the glow of the impending sunrise, but I find it soothing and calming. Perfect way to start the day with this and a cuppa. The sun has completely lifted itself out from behind the hill and even looks like a ball of fire on a slightly chilly day. Christmas star vs sun. In the daytime, the star light is barely seen and fades into oblivion even through a hazy sun. It looks like an ordinary cardboard shape swinging in the wind. But the darkness brings out the pretty shape with all the designs on it and it looks lovely and Christmassy. But lookg at it in the daytime is nowhere as impressive or beautiful as you can see.

Do you have any indoor plants at your home or office? My colleague went to buy some for her home and kids and I asked her to get one for me. She got me this pretty looking one. The leaves are slightly fleshy and have some intricate black spots on it. It's apparently easy to take care of. It cost me less than 1USD - and that includes the little plastic pot with fertilised, complosted soil in it. Pretty good, isn't it!

Kabaddi kabaddi kabaddi! Kabaddi is a complex game, popular in India and south asia. Although it is not as popular as cricket in India, I was pleasantly surprised at the high level of gameplay and live coverage on TV. The camera work, commentary and coverage were brilliant. I watched a live match after a very long time and it was awesome. Match ended in a tie. And my son loves it too. We were soon playing kabaddi in the hall much to my wife's dismay!!

The weather started off 'dreamy'. There was a calming and sleepy vibe even after 7 am this morning. With January progressing, the chill in the morning is shorter and the days will no longer have as much of clouds and haze. The nights are not as cold and the wind in the late evenings has dropped. Don't cry over spilt detergent! That's how my day started. I put the clothes in to the washing mashine and started putting the detergent powder into the dispenser when I pulled it out accidentally. The dispenser crashed to the floor and the detergent in it was all over the floor. All I could do was sweep it off and dump it, but the voice inside me said I should have used it anyway!! I didn't cry - this wasn't spilt milk!! What did you spill lately?

Dead! This is one of the flowers on my rose plant that has died, withered, but has been hanging on to the stalk for almost a month. There's a sense of beauty and yet a sense of sadness as it is lifeless and colorless. It once was pretty, pink and bright. But no more.... I don't feel like clipping it off and dumping it in the bin!! The second picture is the same flower when it had bloomed a month ago!!

Jammed! We managed to get the basketball jammed on the outer edge between the ring and the board. Neither my son or me are tall enough to jump or reach it. Thankfully we had brought my daughter's little blue basketball and after a couple it attempts managed to throw it just right to knock it off and unjam it. Interesting things happen at basketball! Roasted coffee beans - they are prettier than you think!! Have a closer look at these beans in their pack. They are smooth(ish) with that delicate split in the middle. Shades of brown and, sometimes, there seems to be streaks of lighter colors. I love the rustling sound they make when we move the pack and the tinkle they make when we shake the pack. The past few days has seen a steady warming up of the days and the chill factor early in the morning and at nights has decreased. We haven't had rains for a while now. The morning started off as expected. But, when I went out later to the balcony, I saw one large ominous looking dark cloud trying to hide the sun! Is it basketball in the sun or basketball with the sun? Sunday afternoon is the only time I get some sun time together with the kids. And we chose to play basketball under the hot sun at noon. I love looking at plants with plenty of flowers, especially in clusters, as it gives a chance to look at different stages of the flowering process in different flowers at the same time. These pretty little flowers bloom in clusters and you can see plenty of these clusters in different stages throughout. This table rose flower never ceases to impress me. I love the way the petals are shaped and how the center is delicately designed to look so pretty. They barely last for a day, but love life to the fullest!! The second and third shot shownhownthe branch scoops itself up before the flower blooms so that it can face the sun when the bud is ready. Nature is beautiful.

The advantage of trying to shoot the basketball (with a regular mobile phone) in the daytime (as compared to night time) is that the blr of the ball or net moving is not there. We played a little basketball at noon today after a looooong time and I managed to capture some shots just as the ball was sinking into the basket. With impending lockdown and surging covid, this may be the only outdoor vent we get.

I poured out the coffee beans into the grinder and was about to seal the pouch when it slipped and fell and quite a bit of coffee beans spilt on the floor. What a waste. Stuck inbetween kind of weather? January is getting more confusing. Overnight, it was definitely not chilly and early morning was already brighter than usual through the bedroom window. I was a little surprised when I went out to the balcony and saw mist hanging around the top of the hill!! Recycling aesthetically is an art and the person who looks after our residential campus does a good job. This is an old, broken little chair that would have been dumped, but has been repurposed to function as a pot holder for plants. It's been carefully placed on a couple of bricks sonthatbit stays balanced. There's something aesthetic about this rickety little chair lying there in an odd position holding the pots!!

Can you spot the weed in this picture? It's right in the midst of the table rose plant that is on my balcony. It almost merges in and can be missed. Iteven has some pretty little flowers that are soooo tiny. It seems to be growing very quickly and can easily choke the table rose plant if i let it grow more and more and can completely destroy it. I love this pretty cluster of flowers. I believe it's called ixora and there's plenty of it lining the path to our apartment complex. It looks like one huge flower, but is actually made of many flowers in a beautifully arranged cluster. It's very common and apparently easy to grow - so you may see it often. Google throws up the funniest photos in its memories. This came from a few years ago when I had a coffee machine with a milk frother. I tried to draw those pretty coffee art thingies in my morning coffee and failed miserably each time - I ended with blobs and abstract art that I would imagine were complex things. Pretty colors on a flower - is there any color a flower has not shown? I love this fiery, yet gentle combination of yellow and red on this flower. I call it table rose, but I've learnt from my noise friends that it is also called portulaca and purslane in addition to several other names in different languages. The hazy glow today morning is much brighter than the misty gloom yesterday. Like I've mentioned before, the mornings are a battlefield - the sun, the clouds, the mist, the sky, the hill and the fog fight it out to figure out who will get the first attention. By late morning, they are too fatigued and the sun usually wins the rest of the day in January (unlike in December).

SMOG alert. This isn't mist or haze. I'm sure it's smog. I'm not sure why there is so much of it this morning. It smells smoky and my air purifier keeps beeping. It's cut down visibility and there's a weird sensation in my nose and throat when I breathe. I hope it goes away fast. Everything more than 100 metres away is completely obscured. This hCaptcha is quite annoying. HCAPTCHA did have similar CAPTCHAs to click on the living rooms (from a grid of 9 images) for a while now. But this one was new. You need to decide if the image is a full living room or not. While sometimes it's clear, there are times when the image seems incomplete. And saying 'no' makes you go through the CAPTCHA again. What insects are these - trying to damage the pretty portulaca or table rose flower? I found them in all the flowers and am not sure what these are or how to get rid of them. It's always fun when the kids pitch in for making and setting up dinner. All I did was grill the burger patties and my son chopped the tomatoes and onions and then we set it all up in a corner of the dining table - buns, patties, veggies, cheese, sauces and some condiments. Don't know how the little Bluetooth speaker ended up there! Dinner is served and the noisy preparation with screams and laughing made it tastier than expected!!

I'd posted this photo of dawn a day or two ago on another channel. I was reminded of the song "Morning has broken". We seldom hear the pure sounds of the morning these days. It's usually sounds of vehicles, vessels and cooking sounds, phone alarms and the fan or AC whirring thay fills the break of dawn. Most cacti look monotonous and dull when you just look at them from a distance. But peer closely and you'll be awestruck at the beauty. The way the thorns are arranged is so beautifully symmetric and geometric. There's a delicate mix of beauty and danger in those thorns! It would take us hours to arrange something like this. And yet those cacti do this everyday and in any place with very little need to be cared for. Beautiful isn't it.

Slay Coffee - that's a pretty nifty name for a coffee brand, eh! And this roast is called Madras Mud Blend. It's supposed to mimic the taste of filter coffee without the added chicory. Is that a floodlit moon or a moonlit floodlight. That's the thought that crossed my mind when I noticed the moon high above the floodlights as we tried our hand at tennis tonight. Fearless little fellow! This little garden lizard just ran back and forth on the tennis net giving scant regard to the ball whizzing close to the net and sometime crashing on to the net. Had to rush 150 km yesterday to be with cousins and relatives as my cousin passed away. So spent the night at their place. Woke up to unexpected rains and a gloomy morning with clouds. He was less than 60 years and had a sudden heart attack. The weather is reflective of our moods today. Unexpected, gloomy and is making us question why!

It was a long day yesterday as we attended my cousin's funeral. Very emotional and saddening. There were so many questions on our minds and still no answers. Fire in the belly! The clouds are capable of taking on a wide range of colors. Red and orange are their favorite. Is this even a flower? It's called cats tail or asypha. It looks like a hairy caterpillar or weird insect on the plant, but is the equivalent of a flower. Can't deny that it looks unique and pretty with a touch of "I dare you" boldness in it.

A day of misses. On Sunday, we tried basketball at noon (my son and I) and it was one of those days where the ball refused to get into the ring and net on most occasions. It was rebelling and just bounced off the rim, the board or just missed everything totally! And I managed to capture quite a few of the misses when I tried to capture one shot of it sinking into the net. Duh!!

Good morning sun. The sun doesn't give two hoots about what covers or lies on planet earth. As the earth rotates on its axis and brings each part of it towards the sun, the sun creates an illusion as though it is rising. It's the earth that's doing the hard work, but it's the sun that we all wait for expectantly and glorify! Anyway, I'm in a slightly philosophical mood this morning and I'll welcome the sun warmly. Some flowers are unique and makes you wonder. This plant has lots of flowers. What is different is that while most flowers are yellow, some are red!! And the red flowers have a bean like seed in their center. I can't understand the botany of it all! I guess nature has its own quirks.

The sun is a star. We have a weird way of drawing stars with points and lines. We often make them 5 or 6 point stars - an art we learnt in our early childhood. The sun is a star - but looks like a ball of fire. The rose plant I bought last month gave a few flowers as soon as it was bought and then has been strangely quiet. I pruned off the branches that had the flowers last week. Over the last couple of days I have noticed a few branches sprouting from these. Fingers crossed that they will bring out some flowers.

The ability of the sun to manipulate the camera lens and the physics of light is mind blowing. I could literally feel the warmth of the sun creeping on to my back as the sun peeped out from behind the hills. How tiny can a flower be? There are no legal, scientific or natural rules! This is a twin flower set from a Crown of Thorns plant and it has 2 petals and is very small. The bright red color makes it stand out proudly from the green leaves and the brown stem with thorns on the plant. I picked this up as it has fallen. Only when I held it in the palm of my hand did I realise how tiny it was!! A miniature masterpiece!!

I usually post pics of the weather with my view of the hill from my balcony. It's usually a morning post and has been hazy, misty, cloudy or rainy for the last couple of months. As winter grudgingly leaves us, the weather is warmer in the daytime, hitting 34 degrees Celsius today - hotter than most summers you may have seen in your home! We have 3 main seasons in my place - hot, hotter, hottest!! Even those misty mornings are close to 20 degrees Celsius(not Fahrenheit). We don't have a recognisable spring or autumn. But we got to experience a slightly autumny day today as a couple of large trees shed a huge number of their red leaves on the walking path. It felt like walking in heaven!

Caught this flower nestled between leaves in a innocuous looking plant that was hidden among other larger plants. I couldn't find out what it was, but it certainly was pretty in spite of it's small size. The yellow centre enhanced its beauty. Do you know what this flower is called?

I use Telegram for messaging on a couple of groups as my workplace uses it. When any of your contacts joins Telegram, it gives you a heads up. There is a little animated cartoon (usually an animal, bird or alien) when you click on the notification with a note to encourage you to send a message and keep in touch. The days are getting brighter and warmer (over 30 degrees Celsius) but there's a bit of haze and mist early in the morning. Today's sunrise seemed a little delayed and I couldn't make out the orange glow or the actual sunrise from behind the hill even at 7.30 am. I hope the sun has not lost its way!!

Got a little lucky with the airdrops at RollerCoin today. My only miner drop was the basic RollerArc S1 and that was more than 2 weeks ago. And today I got two of them in one day. They offer very little power and the earnings from them are miniscule - but getting them free is nice. I also crafted 2 of them to get more power out of them. I got the first one in the morning when using my laptop and the second one on my phone in the evening.

I've always thought that it was spelt sulphur or sulfur. But CAPTCHAs taught me a new spelling. "SULPHER". It smells fishy, but that is what the CAPTCHA wanted me to fill in. I googled it and realised there are some entries on some websites that spell it that way. I can't figure out if it is a typo or an official spelling! Or did the CAPTCHA maker make a typo?

I'm not a multitasker. Most guys like me aren't, apparently. And this is as much multitasking as I can handle. We decided to have home cooked junk food for dinner and the menu decided by the kids included hot dogs and potato smilies. The sun read my message yesterday and decided to tease me with another game of hide and seek. It showed us it's light but hid it's form. A walk through the woods - why is there a concrete path? We visited the campus where I studied last evening and enjoyed walking through the familiar paths through lots of trees, greens and shrubbery. A lot has changed and there are more buildings, residences and paths now. I still work in the same place but in a campus 10 km away which is a typical concrete jungle. So a little walk through these 'woods' with family was very refreshing.

The leaves are falling! We loved walking through this path that had trees all around. For some reason, a lot of them were shedding leaves. While some of the tiny leaves floated down, the bigger ones just dropped as we were walking beneath. It felt surreal to look up and see so many leaves fall down like drizzling rain! Holiday trekking. Chugged out for a mini trek to a place 40 minutes away from home. Took us 2 hours to find the place and then a little circling for locating the path to the dried up waterfalls. So instead of waterfalls, we were greeted to some awesome views of mountains and woods and rocks. There were just a few locals grazing their goats and we had the entire place to ourselves. Very satisfying morning!!

Balancing act! On our trek this morning we came across this interesting rock poised gingerly on the edge. It was perfectly balanced and looked precarious. The stones in front of it were ready to catch it if it fell!!we pushed it a few times but it didn't move - solid as a rock in spite of it's precarious placement!

We went on a little trek today and I'll be posting some pics from that when I get time. Even though it was a rocky, woody, shrubbery filled trek, I was amazed at the amount of pretty flowers that were sprouting and blooming close to ground level. And who said white flowers aren't pretty! This is a perfect example!!

We saw many butterflies on our trek this morning - most were orange tipped white butterflies. Just when were returning, we saw this gorgeous butterfly 🦋 which looked royally beautiful and had beautiful shades of blue and ?green. It was not too close and my phone did a very bad job at zooming on it as it rested on a twig om the creek. I wish I could have captured a better shot!

On our trek yesterday, we saw many unique flowers. This is one of them. The first thing I noticed is that the flowering plant has both flowers and small berries. These berries are apparently medicinal, as per locals. We did not try them though. The second is the change in colors. Is it another false show by nature? Mist and hazy December seemed to give way to brighter January early this year only to deceive us - the last couple of weeks have been hazy again. This morning was brighter and the clouds were fluffier and very pretty, even allowing glimpses of blue skies. And the sun looked all set to shine brightly early in the morning. Is it a sign that the hazy season is finally over?

Saw plenty of these unique flowers on our trek yesterday. Apparently it is a weed and can be toxic!! It certainly grew abundantly all over the sides of the paths we were taking. Thankfully we didn't pluck any or take them back. Whatever the facts are, you cannot dent that it is extremely pretty and eye-catching.

Finding all trucks (or trains or motorbuses or bikes or cycles) as part of HCAPTCHA is not unusual. I found this one unusual because, although it mentions trucks, all the trucks (including the example) are red firetrucks. Have you had this before? Another pretty flower I saw a lot of when we went trekking earlier this week. This too was close to ground level and easy to miss as you walk. It's delicate and has a pastel yellow kind of color that is not as bright as a sunflower. But a closer look and you see enough beauty that can grab your attention.

Retro? I got this can of Pepsi a few days ago when we ordered take out at KFC. The can proudly claimed itself to be a retro can with a design from the 1990s. All marketing gimmicks! In the hurried mornings, my breakfast is often cereal, cornflakes, muesli or granola. I recently bought a pack of chocos (moon and stars) for the kids. J know it's unhealthy, but today I tried some. It was sooooooo sweeeeeeet. I then had a look at the ingredients and guess how much sugar is there! One third of the weight of the cereal is just sugar. Even though the start to this morning was hazy and cloudy, I enjoyed the warmth of the sun as it rose above the hills in the horizon. My evening cuppa on a Saturday. Decided to use a fancy glass and layered the frothed milk on top of the espresso - watching the milk float around and mix with the decoction was a bit mesmerizing. A touch of sugar and my evening was all set.

Hide and seek: When clouds abound but are lighter (and fluffier), the sun plays a game.of hide and seek with them. These two photographs are taken minutes apart. They look differently bright because of the phone using different exposures, but in real time, the second shot was taken when the brightness was much, much more than the first because te sun had broken through a gap in the clouds. You can see some rays and the light bursting through.

It's been more than a month and the fish are still surviving! These are Betta fish and need very little care - a few granules of food every day and water change once in a few days. No need for plants or ornaments or aerator in the bowl. The kids have been excited, but I have to remind them to feed the fish every evening. Let's hope the fishes are happy!

Is this even a flower? What is it? Although it looks like a dandelion, I don't think it is. The cottony structure is probably the same as a flower with a different structure. Can anyone identify this and what it is? I'm sure it is made this way to aid in dispersal and spread the plant.
