Humanity,  with its digital platform Humanite.fr, takes the initiative to open its columns to rethink the world, with the ambition of being useful to each and every one of us. This initiative will be extended with the publication of a special issue at the end of the summer and the organization of major public debates to continue these writings. Today: "States and sovereign debt", by Jean Ziegler, sociologist and author of Lesbos, the shame of Europe.

During the first European wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, two strategies specific to globalized financial capitalism proved to be deadly: that of resorting to the law of the comparative costs of production costs and that of the maximization of profits. Until the start of deconfinement in Europe, the epidemic killed more than 375,000 people worldwide. Victims die mainly in institutions for dependent elderly people (Ehpad) and in hospitals.
