Don't hide your light under a bushel" is an old English proverb, telling us not to hide our abilities. It is often used as a pun, meaning that one should not be embarrassed to show off one's abilities and talents.
The proverb is typically interpreted to mean that it is better to reveal one's talents in order to enjoy the positive results of any praise or recognition for them.
In this day and age, there's no reason for anyone to hide what they're doing from the rest of the world.
We all have abilities to contribute in some way. It could be creating something really useful or providing insight and guidance to others. The world needs what we have to offer, so let's not hide it!
When you make something, share it with the world! You might be surprised at how much you get back in return.
In many Christian traditions this adage is interpreted as a warning against hiding one's virtues out of fear of being criticized.
It's a wonder we ever accomplish anything of note if we wait for the stars to align and all our ducks to be in order before we just go ahead and start. There'll always be an excuse why not.
A friend of mine once told me that she finds it helpful to write down her goals in a notebook, and then she crosses them off when she achieves them. That way, she continues to accomplish her goals.
It's also a wonder that we ever accomplish anything if we wait for everybody else in the world to give us permission to do it.
