When Worrying and Anxiety

In everyday life, we may have been confused or even disappointed. For example, because in the environment where we work there is unfair treatment, or maybe because the facilities and welfare we receive are not as expected.

In facing such situations and conditions, we often complain: Is the path we are taking is right and we are pleased with you? Is our existence in this world really useful? May it not only be an ordinary human being who may be tempted to have doubts in his heart. Even the prophets were subjected to such trials.

''O my Lord,'' complained Prophet Zakaria when he was not yet blessed with a child.

Even though Prophet Zakaria's bones were weak and his hair was gray, while his wife was known to be barren.

"Indeed I fear for my successor, and I have never been disappointed in praying to You, my Lord," he continued.

The Prophet Muhammad himself also experienced anxiety. Once, when facing a multiplied enemy during the Battle of Badr, he asked Allah SWT, "I am afraid, O Rabbi, if this small congregation is destroyed, then no one will worship You anymore."

As Muslims who wish to follow the examples of the prophets, then in times of such confusion and disappointment, we must first of all remember and turn to Allah SWT, to ask for His guidance.

In this moment of disappointment and doubt, we reflect, and we draw our hearts with full surrender to Him.

Prayer and contemplation pausing for a moment in the daily worldly bustle with prayer and remembrance is the moment we look at our hearts.

The times we introspect and evaluate ourselves, by uniting our souls to the Divine. ''Know,'' says Allah SWT in Surah Ar-Ra'du 28, 'by remembering Allah the heart (of a person) can be at peace.''

By praying five times a day, it is proof of the devotion of a human being to his Creator who has created him. And prayer is also an offering of gratitude for all the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon His servants in life in this world.

In addition, prayer also functions as our effort to evaluate and introspect on all the deeds we do on that day. We immediately hold a dialogue by conveying all kinds of hopes and complaints for our shortcomings to Allah SWT. With that prayer, we ask for guidance and strength to carry out and uphold the truth on this earth as caliphs who have been created by God Almighty.
