When Despair Hits
There are many things in life that can discourage us. I've been studying hard, but the grades are mediocre. Day and night struggling at work, the results are not yet visible. Everything is done to find a partner, but the bridge of the nose of the mate never appears.
When we tell a friend, the response that is often given is:
"Cheer up, yes! Do not give up!" Unfortunately, what is easy to say is very difficult to put into practice.
Keep Hope
Despair is something that happens in our minds, but has not been done or realized. From the mind, will be born actions that are triggered by that despair.
For example, when we think we will not get good grades even though we have studied, we become lazy to fight. Without realizing it, we look for excuses or situations that make the intention to learn void. Therefore, the first thing we have to change is our thoughts or rather, our way of thinking.
Keep it in your mind that there is still hope. Everything doesn't end here. A person stops doing something because he loses hope. He believed that no matter how hard he tried, the result would be the same. Never lose hope. If you lose hope, you lose life. Without hope, it's all over.
Why do you keep working on your thesis even though you are tired and want to give up? Because you have hope that you will eventually graduate. Why do you want to do your best? Because you believe that one day what you do will bear fruit. Why do you diligently pray for a partner from God? Because there is hope that God will give you the best partner at the right time. Don't lose hope. When the sun goes down, the stars come out. The saying goes, when the sun goes down, the stars will appear. So don't lose hope and stay tuned for the best. Actively Looking For Solutions
Once you have hope again, you need to actively seek solutions. Hope that is not accompanied by action is futile. There are two types of solutions that can be applied:
Continue What You've Been Doing
If you believe that you are on the right track or applying the right way, keep doing it. Do it more often and more consistently.
When you've done what's right, but the results aren't showing yet, keep doing your part. One day you will surely reap the rewards. You never know how close the result will be if you give up. Try one more time, and one more time, and one more time!
Change the Strategy, Not the Goal
Sometimes, to get out of a problem, doing the same thing over and over is not enough. To get out of despair, you may need a different way or strategy.
If you feel stuck, brainstorm with a mentor, leader, spiritual guide, or someone you trust. Ask them for help so you can see from a different perspective or find another way out.
For example, say you try a quiet time at night, but always fall asleep or are out of focus. Your goal remains the same. I have to be quiet. Then, how do you not fall asleep? Change the time to morning. If you're still asleep, try taking a shower before it's shaded so you're fresher. Change the strategy, but never the goal.
Keep praying
If you've done the first and second points, don't forget this third point. Remember that humans can only plan, but it is God who gives the results. Include God in your every plan. Believe that prayer can change many things, both our circumstances and our hearts.
Who is the source of your strength? Do you still pray to God in joy and sorrow? If not, immediately come to Him for help and strength.
When you are hopeless, hold on to your hope, keep looking for solutions, and keep praying! Don't wallow in despair for long. Why? Because we have an amazing God, who is so much bigger than all our problems. So don't say, "God, I have a big problem." Instead, say, "Hey, Trouble, I have a great God!"
