Have you ever wondered why the streets keeps getting filled with jobless people?
Days after days, months after months and years after years.Have you gone through the pain of a failed plan?
Millions of the people roaming jobless on the streets are lazy. But a fraction of them are people who got tired of trying. They hit rock bottom but didn't realize that the only other way they could go was UP.
School is a major factor. In Nigeria, a student who gets admission into a federal university is praised and most times, considered 'lucky'.
Sometimes, it's really not about how hard one prepared for the exams. A whole lot of students don't get into their desired universities.
Let's take the story of a family friend of mine, Francis, as an example.
Francis was a really bright student. He was known by everyone for that. He surpassed his peers academic wise. Francis displayed great brilliance till he was done with secondary school.
When he got to his last year in secondary school, he started preparing for his external examinations. Unfortunately, he didn't get into the university on his first sitting.
The next year, he tried again and failed. His parents did not have the huge amount of money needed to study in a private university. He had always wanted to study medicine so he kept trying.
He sat for the exams each year for seven years. At that time, most of his mates were already out of their various universities.
He finally got in after the seventh year and studied the course of his dreams
What would you do if you found yourself in this situation?
I know for a fact that most people would either give up on the idea of school and drop out. Or try a different course.
Through out Francis' years at home, he kept asking himself two questions.
Is it wise to take this exam again?
Would it be better for me to give up and learn a trade?
When faced with such questions, people tend to look for the easy way out.
Let's look at another scenario.
Mama Nkechi as she was popularly known on my street was a "Yamburger" seller( Yamburger is a local delicacy made by dipping pieces of yam into beans mix, then fried). All of a sudden, she ventured into hair dressing by the roadside.
She did that for a while but had to stop because she was in the way of a major road construction. Mama Nkechi was not seen for years and the next time she showed up, she was a head marketer of new brand of products, "Longrich"
Can you see the differences and similarities in these two scenarios?
In Francis' case, he didn't give up and eventually got what he wanted.
If mama Nkechi had continued with her "Yamburger" business, would she have reached the point she got to at the end?
But in these two cases, one thing is clear. They never gave up. Life gave them lemons, they made Lemonade. They overcame the hurdles in life in order to remain in the race.
What to do when at the verge of quitting.
Pray to God.
God can fix anything. Even during good times, we have to speak to God let alone during hard times.
Always stay motivated
Take responsibility for your actions
Identify the reason behind that goal.
Most times, people forget the reason why they pursued a dream. The pain involved while chasing their goals push them to make wrong decisions.
When faced with difficult challenges, remember the purpose when you were at your all-time high and re-strategize
Then bounce back twice stronger than before
Hey lovelies, how are y'all doing today?
Today went by so fast. I had to catch a train to meet up. Lol

We all have dreams and aspirations. We set goals and map out plans to achieving them. But things don't always go as planned. Circumstances beyond your control can alter the course of your plan. What makes a difference is your never give up attitude.
