Hello guys! This is @Xzeon again and i'm sharing to you an article which gives awareness to us about the food we usually love and we used to eat especially when they are easy to prepareand we just grab it at the grocery stores and mini stores in the alley. I learned this when i attended a seminar about 1 year back about food preservation. I will make it short and simple.
Who among you here loves bacon.,ham, hotdogs, cured meats, corned beef, and canned meat? And sometimes salted and smoked fish..
Do you know the preservatives in which the manufacturers added into it in order to extend the shelf life of the said product? Do you know what they added to make it presentable in color?
Well, im going to introduce to you the two chemicals that is responsible why such product last long even for months.
Nitrite and nitrate. This two additives has an important role and used to preserve meat. It is usually added to cured meat and frozen meat products to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. It also improves the appearance of the meat giving it a bright red and pink color.
Nitrate and nitrite can be harmful and hazardous to our body due to its potential production of carcinogenic nitrosamines. Processed meat products and cured meat can contain high levels of these additives.
This nitrosamines may cause gastric and colon cancer, and other internal cancers and also causes other tumors.
Though we can avoid this, sometimes we just crave for the foods that contains these kind of additives. Try to take a little intake of processed meat products and maximize your intake of antioxidants like berries, beans, spinach, eggplant, mangoes and tea.
