Cannabis Worse Than Booze?
What is worse for you: marijuana or alcohol? It is, perhaps, difficult to say, but the science is telling us is that there is a clear winner.
Of course, the (negative) effects, depending on an individual's physiology (heart, brain), behavior, and verslavingsgevoeligheid. Also, time is a factor, since some of the effects are immediately shown and the other effects only in the long term.
And there is yet another reason why the comparison is not quite fair: since the beginning of human memory research has been done on the effects of alcohol, but cannabis is less of a concern.
1. More deaths are due to alcohol
In 2014, in the united states, more than 30,000 people have died in alcohol-related consequences. Are the accidents, or homicides in which alcohol was included, then a total of approximately 90,000 people, according to health institution did the CDC.
According to the Us DEA, there are no deaths directly linked to wietgebruik may be related. A longitudinal survey of 65,000 Americans, which was published in the American Journal of Public Health, showed that marijuana users do not die earlier than those who do not use cannabis with smoking.
2. Marijuana is less addictive than alcohol
A national survey shows that nearly half of Americans have at least one time in their lives, weed is smoked. However, only a small percentage of the hits are really addicted to, is evident from the large-scale study in 1994 by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, in which over eight thousand people between the ages of 15 and 64 years of age were surveyed.
For those who have at least once tried marijuana, which had been a nine per cent described it as ‘addicted’. With alcohol, that percentage is fifteen percent of the time. The verslavingspercentages of cocaine, heroin and nicotine and were, respectively, 17, 23, and 32 percent of the time.
3. Marijuana can be (in the short term will be bad for the heart
In contrast to alcohol, will speed up marijuana in a person's heart rate, and, in the short term, have a negative effect on the heart. However, the largest study of cannabis use in the USA shows that the risk of having a heart attack is not increased.
People who have one glass of per day, drink have a lower risk of heart attack than abstainers. However, as soon as someone has some serious sinks in, the effect is quickly lost, says James Nicholls of the British institute of Alcohol Research in the united kingdom.
4. Alcohol is linked to cancer
Earlier this month, were some of the best kankerartsen a call, be sure to drink less alcohol. Drink at least one glass of alcohol per day, the risk of breast cancer, namely, to increase the challenge. Also, the department of health does have a role to play in the kit: alcohol is a major cause of cancer and cancer treatment.
Research conducted by the National Cancer Institute, it appears that as soon as you are a regular alcohol drinker, you have a greater chance of developing cancer. In contrast to the smoking of cigarettes, marijuana is not associated with cancer.
5. Alcohol affects your driving behavior is more negative than that of marijuana
The U.s. agency for traffic safety (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that a certain amount of THC in the blood, the risk of car accidents is not increased. Is the percentage of alcohol up to 0.5 per cent, or higher, than the risk of an accident, up to 575% increase.
A combination of the two drugs in the lead – logically – to-be at the greatest risk on the roads. If you are under the influence of either drugs, and the risk is, of course, is even greater.
6. Alcohol is linked to (domestic) violence
Several studies point to a link between alcohol and violent behaviour. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, alcohol is a cause of forty per cent of all violent crimes. A study of college students indicates that that the consumption of alcohol and the rates of mental and physical abuse, are higher.
For marijuana, there would be little or no correlation between the use of, and increase at risk. The users would be even less likely to be violent expression and non-users.
7. Heavy use leads to memory loss
Both alcohol and marijuana have a negative effect on your memory. Heavy consumption of alcohol or wietgebruik, in particular, users, who, from their teen years, and use experienced significant gaps in long-term memory.
Marijuana can have negative effects for weeks after stopping use and hold. Thus, there is a potential association between daily cannabis smoking and less well developed in memory.
Heavy drinkers show a decrease in memory, attention and oversight, and a reduction in emotional sensitivity and cognitive, which for many years after abstinence and can continue for.
8. Both of the drugs may be linked to psychiatric illness
Several studies have shown that there is a substantial connection between the use of cannabis and development of schizophrenia. Also, the smoking of the weed, the feelings of paranoia and hostility, and strengthen them. It is, as yet, no association was found between the wietgebruik, and have a higher chance of having a long-term opiate use.
On the other hand, self-mutilation, and suicide is much more common among heavy drinkers. Researchers are still struggling to decode, or excessive use of alcohol leads to depression and feelings of anxiety or that people with depression or anxiety, just go out for a drink.
9. Alcohol leads to more obesity
Smoking weed has the effect of excessive eating. It can cause you to have a wietroker of up to six hundred calories is up to you. However, wietrokers a higher Body Mass Index (BMI) score. Even stronger, people who are regular marijuana smoker will have a decreased chance of obesity.
Alcohol is, however, more likely to be associated with weight gain or even obesity, according to a study published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine. A beer has 150 calories and a glass of wine is 120 calories.
In my opinion, neither alcohol nor marijuana are good for human health. If alcohol were banned, as is marijuana in many countries, we would have far fewer alcoholics, as well as other alcohol-induced diseases.
