Is being Cool a lifestyle?
Is being cool a success or a failure? I never felt cool, I guess I have a somewhat bossy and casual demeanor. 'Being cool' expresses an attitude. It means 'attitude of indifference'. We may not be using the concept of being cool today. When we see a handsome boy or a very beautiful girl, we immediately start whispering how cool he is. What is being cool, how important is it, do we call people cool?
In recent years, a concept called "being cool" has settled in our language. It is difficult to find the exact equivalent in Turkish, but it is possible to define being cool as "having a style", "being charismatic" or "being cool".
Dick Pountain and David Robins say that being cool symbolizes an oppositional attitude and its roots go back a long way. The word cool was first used to describe the attitudes and behavior of black prison inmates. Being cool means that a prisoner responds to the pressure and torment of the guards with indifferent indifference. Being cool is ignoring authority to protect your own dignity. The concept of cool first spread from the prisons to the daily life of the American society, and this saying has spread to all societies over time. The concept of cool has been reinterpreted by each generation and its meaning has changed until today. It retained the meaning of rebellion in its origin, but over time, a status dimension was added to this meaning. It evolved into a smug indifference and became a symbol of privilege.
Being cool today; It's more attractive than being beautiful or handsome, or even rich or powerful. Cool people, cool places, cool brands, cool cities attract people.
Being cool excludes being massive. If a brand is a mass brand, it's not cool. For this reason, those who do not compromise to be popular are considered cooler. People who act like no one is watching them are cool.
Although five-star international hotel chains have the highest luxury and comfort, they are not considered cool, but boutique hotels with unique designs can be cool without being popular at all. It is difficult to create a mass brand from cool brands, but every cool brand has the potential to be a good “niche brand”.
There is no single answer to how a person can be cool. Moreover, while trying to be cool, it is possible for a person to become very ordinary or even vulgar. Because a person's forcing himself to be cool, making an effort, struggling to be cool will not be that cool.
There is a secret in the nature of being cool that no matter what job one does, one does it "without effort". But appearances should not be deceived. Because all of the cool behaviors that seem to be done without any effort in the image are behaviors that have been achieved as a result of great work.
In order to be cool, one must first have a unique attitude, behavior or skill. Then he has to work it hard to achieve perfection as if it were his own nature. In the end, when exhibiting this attitude, behavior or skill, he should display it with a comfort and naturalness as if he had never worked, as if it was the easiest thing in the world.
There is a great effort behind the fact that a black prisoner responds to all kinds of material and moral tortures inflicted on him as if he did not move, as if he was not hurting at all, and as if his soul was not harmed. An elegant effortlessness in appearance.
Such are the jokes of the great comedians that make us laugh out loud. In whichever field a person wants to be cool, he must first solve the mystery and then put a lot of effort into this field.
