Reading/ writing comprehension alert

When I was a kid my father told me that it's already enough for us to learn how to read and write so that we will not be lost when we are going to the city.But as of today due to pandemic,most of the students were not able to spell or pronounced words correctly,especially with English subject.How can it be enough for them having modular class when they didn't learned?Maybe that's the problem of having modules but there is no face to face follow up with reading comprehension.

We have received a chat from my son's teacher this afternoon that,the students should report to school on Wednesday.This is to follow up the reading comprehension with the students .The teachers have observed that their students are not developing in reading skills.As what they can see in the group chat,even the spelling of their messages were wrong.They cannot even comprehend some english words and spell it incorrectly.

When the teacher saw the wrong spelling the word "wifi",she was mad and tell the class that they should used private message.

This is so alarming for them,especially with the public schools,where most student have their own self -study.Some of them cannot participate with their online class because they don't have any gadget,especially when the parents are lack in financial matters.

But there are also some students that are unaware of learning on how to spell their words correctly.Even though they have their own gadgets,they are just exposed to social media,watching online videos and playing online games.

According to some teachers,for almost 2 years of doing modular class the students had already forget on how to read words correctly and spell.

Just like the word,"walked", some children read this as "wo - ked",even my son also have a lot of mistakes when I have let him read.It's no doubt because he just spent most of his time with doing ML and other games.And I was just surprised that he is in the top 10 students.He knows how to read but with few words that seems difficult, for him just like with silent letters.

Gadgets really affects the students reading and writing comprehension,as what I have observed.Mostly,people will used short cut words ,when they type their messages.Even if they knows how to explore online,their learnings should also be consider and be given attention.

• They find it so tiring to spend more time with thinking especially with a story and then follow up questions.

• They don't like to read more and more,but they will just jumped up to the conclusion of the story.

• They want to make things just go so easy,that's why some of the students have stopped already.

• Some of the students cannot learned to read because there's no one who can teach them how to do it,when their parents are also unable to help them.

There are some politicians who have given their promises in their campaign adds ,that they will support and help the education system of the country.Just like giving tablets,but it think I should not expect that it will happened. I just try with my own effort to help my kids in their reading skills.Because at the end of the day,it might just a promise as well and will not come true.

As of today,my son have report to school to attend the reading exercises they have to read english and tagalog words.They are having difficulty with english words,especially when they have to write an essay writing and a paragraph.

Actually there were some grade 7 students who are not able to read 4 letter words and they are told by the teachers to turn back with basic words and letters.Its sounds alarming,when there are a lot of students are poor in reading and writing comprehension.

When my son came home,I used to write few words in an old calendars ,the bigger one,so that he can practice to read at least for few minutes everyday.As a mother,I should be responsible enough to watch over my son with their learning at home.

Reading and writing skills is very important so that they can learned how to communicate.Especially nowadays that they transactions mostly happened in online world.Tagalog words are also important because it's our national language while english is vital also in business world and in education purposes especially when applying with work.

I can say,that students before are studious than this generation,even if we just used lamp,as light during the night.But today,it happens that there are a lot of distractions around,that makes them busy and attracted .

Maybe it comes with proper discipline and guidance with family and guardians.

These students who are unable to read and write english properly should not be bullied,but they need someone to teach them,and I'm thankful that the teachers are taking their actions regarding with this matter.

I hope that every student can learned how to read and write.
