My part time job experience and thoughts
Hello there! I'm still here around, just got so busy lately at home, especially with the tons of laundries that I need to finish for the whole day.
Last week I was busy with my part time job here in my husband's workplace. I worked at the canteen/grocery store as a cashier, and to tell you, it was my first time ever experience with this kind of work. And its really challenging, because I was multitasking, not just a cashier but also as a saleslady because it's a canteen as well as a grocery store.
My epic fail first day😊
Because I was just a part timer, so I wasn't able to used the cashier's register machine, and I was doing a manual way of making receipts and calculation of sales. It also includes listing all the purchased items and its prices everytime there's a customer.
Honestly, I didn't make it as good as it should be. My lists are so messy and the lists total amount was not balanced with my cash on hand. Supposed to be my off is 4 pm but I need to fix my output to be passed on the admin office, I got off at 5 pm, and I finally balanced my sales lists and the cash. It wasn't easy during the first day, but it was all worth it experience.
On my three days of experience here's some things that I've learned:
A cashier must have a friendly and positive attitude.
It is very important when you work as a cashier, because as I have experience there are some customer's who are not nice, and sometimes they want their transactions to finished right away. And that's the problem because, things cannot be done in an instant, so they need to wait first, so patience is also needed in this matter.
A cashier must have focus and attention to every detail.
This refers to also with the prices of the goods and the quantity of the groceries that the customer will buy. Some people are also looking at the items if they were arranged properly, and if it is well placed, and the grocery store itself should also clean and smell good.
One day, when I open the door of the store, I have observed that it's smell is really bad, when I found out that there is an egg on the tray that is already broken and have an awful smell.
There should be a basic math skills
I guess, its one of the most important thing too, that we should have as a cashier. Because we might lose money if we cannot be able to count properly. There are some situations that I need to be quick in addition, and subtraction, that is why, having a math skills is very necessity.
Lastly, I also had a time when I didn't have eaten my food on breakfast because I was already late, hehe. Because I was an on call cashier, so the call might come unplanned or without further notice, that's why I can't eat, because it's already time for opening the store.
Anyway, my experience teaches me a lot as a person, on how we deal with people, is really great responsibility.
