There are around 10,000 species of birds in the world. And you have seen them poop, you might’ve been be in the receiving end but bet you haven’t seen any bird pee.

Birds are different from mammals. Mammals usually discard the excess nitrogen in the body which tends to form toxic ammonia which is then diluted in the bladder to form urea which is non-toxic. Birds do not pee, so how do they discard the excess nitrogen in their body?

Bird’s convert the nitrogen into uric acid which is also non toxic same with urea. They have a specialized body part, called cloaca that stores both pee and poop, so it can all be released in one go! This is actually efficient and saves water. In fact, birds don’t need to drink that much, some can even travel long distances for a week without drinking water, all thanks to an efficient metabolic process.
