As you know, read.cash pays in bitcoin cash, not USD. As a result, the amount of USD in your account may fluctuate from day to day. You can then withdraw your money into an external wallet such as local bitcoin. However, how and what can you buy with your newly acquired BCH (bitcoin cash)?
Firstly you can exchange your BCH for USD from another website such as local bitcoin or CoinBase. At local bitcoin, you will exchange it using peer-to-peer methods meaning another person will directly buy your BCH from you, usually below market value. This means you may be, in a way, be shorted USD. Depending on the method they pay you, they might pay you above or below value though, so just watch for the selling prices. Also, since it is peer-to-peer local bitcoin will be sort of stubborn if someone cheats you out of money and local bitcoin cannot return your money/BCH. So watch out for scammers and make sure the people look legit before selling. Also, some buyers have minimums so if you're only earning a few dollars here and there, it may take a very long time to accumulate enough money to get USD.
CoinBase is different since there is more insurance. It's more like buying/sell BCH from a stock exchange. As an added bonus, you can earn free crypto by reading its articles about smaller crypto currencies. However, if your goal is to get USD, you'll most likely need to turn those smaller currencies into a different, larger/better know currency first.
Alternatively, you can buy gift cards which can be redeemed in stores. I personally used https://www.egifter.com/. On eGifter, I paid via my wallet on electron-cash. Basically, I downloaded electron-cash onto my computer and then linked it up to my read.cash's wallet and then bam! It's ready to make purchases. I tried it out on my other account (which had more money) and it worked. I got a Barnes and Nobles gift card and redeemed it on the online store.
Finally, you can buy some products directly via BCH. Local bitcoin has a section where you can directly buy products. Microsoft accepts BCH as payment as does the European food delivery service TakeAway.
So, while BCH and crypto in general are great investments, for those of you out there who'd prefer to stick with fiat currencies, hopefully, now you feel safer using BCH now that you know that it's pretty easy to go between it and USD. :)
There are referral links in this article meaning I may get money if you click on them. If you'd prefer to not use them, here are the versions which are NOT referral links: https://www.bitcoin.com/,
