Very Excited for NFTs on Bitcoin Cash via the May Upgrade! + Small Giveaway
Minting NFTs — and then keeping track of which privacy-invasive, Google-plugin dependent wallet they belong to — can be an exercise in very high expense and frustration. This not even to mention the fact that various marketplaces change their sign-in procedures, wallet support, and experience data leaks when it comes to customer emails.
The upcoming upgrade to the Bitcoin Cash network on May 15 can't fix all these problems in and of itself, but it can potentially make minting NFTs much more fun, affordable, and creator-friendly, while builders, artists, and creators enjoy highly customizable functionality.
To learn more about the May 15 upgrade and the CashTokens Bitcoin Cash Improvement Proposal (CHIP) please see a detailed explanation here, and an interview with developer Jason Dreyzehner here.
I have personally played around with the testnet for CashTokens a bit at the invitation of a friend, and this same friend sent me an NFT he minted. Of course, this is all just the very rough beginnings of what coders and builders could do once the upgrade goes through, which essentially allows Ethereum-comparable smart contracts directly on-chain for BCH, while preserving efficiency and low fees — something we all know both the ETH and BTC networks struggle with.
It's just the beginnings, but with a community of builders and users that love privacy, good UX, and economic freedom more than just being whatever crypto Twitter goofball's fanboy/girl, I expect pretty cool innovations to take place.
This is a huge chance for the protocol to show those seeking more economic freedom — and who understand that permissionless, peer-to-peer exchange of value is what Bitcoin was always about — how Bitcoin Cash can be leveraged to make such exchange possible, while enjoying fast and cheap transactions anywhere in the world.
