Lack of self-esteem can be a huge setback in one's life. Thinking that you are not capable of doing certain things, as well as seeing yourself as less worthy will significantly influence your career, emotional life as well as your ability to socialize well with people. That's why you need to stop and think about the reasons that make you doubt yourself and your value. If you need a bit of extra motivation to start working on yourself and boost your confidence, check out some of the suggestions that helped me push through my insecurities and become a woman who walks through life with a head up high.
Surrounding myself with positive people
Negativity is a huge setback and can keep you from advancing in life. Namely, if you’ve been around people who constantly complain about life, but they do nothing to make it better for themselves, you need to change your circle of friends. Surrounding yourself with people who always look on the bright side of life is imperative if you want to become more positive. Start spending less time with people who put you down, and compare how you feel when you’re around them versus how you feel when you spend time with people who spread positivity. By focusing on solutions and making positive changes, instead of pining over problems, will significantly help you feel more confident.
Changing body image
Feeling proud of the way your body looks is another important factor in feeling more confident. If you are not happy with what you see in the mirror, it means you need to work on improving your body image. Whether by changing your fashion style or by going under the knife, only if you appreciate your body, will you be able to feel more confident in your own skin. I’ve been feeling insecure about my breasts for as long as I can remember, and it was the one thing that kept me from walking with a head up high. Living in Australia gave me numerous opportunities to enlarge my breasts because cosmetic surgery is very popular in the Land Down Under. So, when I started looking for the clinics that would do the best breast augmentation in Sydney, there was no shortage of clinics with experienced surgeons. Once I’ve finally done it, my life changed completely. It wasn’t an enormous change, though. My breasts still appeared natural, which was the most import thing, but they looked fuller which instantly made me feel good in my own skin.
Improve posture
Sometimes, when people start seeing you as a more confident person, you’ll start feeling like that yourself. In order to appear more confident, start with improving your posture. Don’t slouch when you sit or walk with your shoulders pushed forward and pulling down, but pull them back and create the impression that you are actually a highly confident person. Walking with a head up high, and smiling as you talk to others will be a winning combination for looking more confident. This will only make others realize you know what you’re talking about and are not intimidated by others, which will in return raise your self-esteem as well.
Don’t compare yourself to others
The sooner you stop comparing yourself to others, the less you’ll be feeling like you’re not doing well. Just because somebody has built an empire by the time they were 35, it doesn’t mean that you’re less worthy or that you won’t be successful as well. Just because a few of your close friends have been in a relationship for years now, it doesn’t mean that you’re doomed to always date people who won’t stick around. Your time will come too, you just need to be patient and focus on achieving your goals, without constantly looking over your shoulder. Furthermore, you need to stop worrying what others might or might not say about it. Your life is only yours, and shouldn’t be anyone else’s business. The minute you start working on your goals in the way that you find most appropriate and without obsessing over what others think about your actions, you’ll start feeling more in control and confident.
Final thoughts
Working on your self-esteem will be a never-ending process because we grow day in day out. All you need to remember is that you should live your life the way you want it and that nobody has the right to judge you for anything. We all deserve to be happy, so don’t think for a second that you’re not worthy of being happy and successful because you most certainly are. You just need to start believing it.
Most people are insecure in some respects, doubt their abilities or think negatively about themselves. Keep going to reinforce such behavior.
