Curiosity - A blessing and a curse
Being curious leads one to discovering amazingly new things and this comes with a wonderful feeling but what then happens if what is discovered is something dangerous and life threatening??
Curiousity is a very strong desire to know or learn about something. It is being inquisitive; wanting to explore and investigate. When this feeling comes knocking, it takes full control of the person in question, it makes one do anything like going against the rules just to satisfy it and when it's not satisfied, one loses his or her peace. The result of one's curiosity can make one even more curious which can lead one from one phase to the other, deeper and deeper and before you realize it, you're at point where the knowledge acquired can lead to life, regrets or maybe death.
I speak with so much vague because I am a curious person too. I have gained and lost friends, appreciated and punished as a result of curiosity. The first incident happened when i was just 4. Anytime i remember, i laugh out loud even if am alone. Was the discovery a thing of joy or punishment? You'll find out.
I always see my Dad listening to the radio. I hear voices come out of a particular part of the radio (which i now know is the speaker) but the question i had then was: "Who is the person that is speaking behind the radio" i wondered and pondered. I could've asked my Dad but no i did not maybe because of the trait of kids disliking being told but loves first hand experience. I decided to launch a mission of discovery.
I waited for the right moment when no one would be home. That moment finally came yippee!.. my Dad just recently bought a new radio with two distinct colors that looked so beautiful. I could've used the old one but no i didn't. I picked up the new radio and i happily took it to the spot of the assignment (the corridor) "today, I'll finally see the person speaking behind the speaker."
I raised the radio up and threw it down but it didn't break open. There's a big stone close by so i hit the radio against the stone as hard as my small hands could. On the third or fourth time, it broke and when i opened it, friends I saw no one!! . I saw something round like a satellite dish with a magnet behind.. who's speaking then? Immediately, the door clicked open and i heard "You have destroyed daddy's radio" i needed no one to tell me that I'm in big trouble. I quickly packed up the remaining pieces left and keep it aside. Please don't tell I'll give you my biscuits. I said to my brother. Give me the biscuits first he said. I already ate the one i had so there was nothing to give. I quickly went to lay down and pretend that am not well lol.
A while after, a tab on my body woke me up. Daddie!. My body started to shake in fright. Are you ok baby..i shaked my head indicating no. Joe came in and said "Daddy, she broke your radio" i immediately started crying. Why did you break it? Daddy asked and i answered amid sobs.. i was expecting him to yell or spank me but instead he laughed so hard. There's no one behind the radio dear and he went further to explain how the tuning button is used to connect to a studio via radio waves. I learnt something new and told my friends the next day.
Woah..that was a close one..i ought to be punished. Other friends who tried to be curious like i have were punished severely and some almost lost their lives (like the one who thought the small Silva bag in shoes were sweets but i was lucky. Till this day I'm being called Investigator at home.
This is just the beginning of my journey with curiosity.
Have you ever done something so dumb like I have?
