Due to his developed sense of humor, a witty person is gladly seen in every society. What exactly is wit?

If we start from the etymological meaning of the word, wit means "agile spirit", a person whose spirit does not rest even when the person is calm. In a psychological sense, wit means a person whose mental processes are lively, so she often surprises us with her original way of bringing concepts together. A witty person is creative, but the result of her creativity is not practical things but new meanings. She is a person who plays, and the subject of her game are mental images, concepts, and words.

When we hear her "varied" associations in the company of a ghost, they affect our mental flows: we abandon mental routines and begin to play with mental representations ourselves. Precisely because he "tickles" the mental currents of others with his associations and makes them relax and cheer up, a witty person is a favorite in society. For someone to be witty, he must be relaxed, because only in a state of relaxation can a person allow himself to play with associations. This is another social power of witty people, because not only is it difficult to feel boredom in their society, but they invite us to become spontaneous on our own.

Although it is pleasant to spend time in the company of someone who entertains and relaxes us with his wit, it is still more important for the quality of our own life to find and express our own wit. There are many situations in life in which a witty attitude towards ourselves, others, and the world can help us.

Although many think that it is an expression of innate talent, today we know that it is an ability that is learned and developed from childhood. If a child is allowed to imagine, to play with mental images, to connect concepts unusually, he will start on the path of wit when he realizes that some of his words amuse others. If we forbid a child to "fool around" and ask him to always be serious, he will not have a chance to develop wit. When a child who plays, pretending that a spoon is an airplane, is told by the parent that it is not an airplane, but a spoon, he does not develop the child's rationality but suffocates his spirit. And the spirit is, after all, our greatest wealth.
