Number One Tip on Blogging

Many of us share helpful tips in our blogs. The number of tips is generally high, often exceeding 5, 7, 9, and even 51.

But it isn’t easy to understand and follow so many tips at a time. Would you be willing to share only a few tips at a time?

  • Ideally, I would share a single tip at a time.

Let me provide a little background on why I advocate sharing only a single tip at a time.

If I were a reviewer, I suggest you reduce the number of tips to only one.

It is easy for you to post stories bundled with many tips.

But is it possible for the readers to grasp the meaning of so many tips?

  • Many tips may often confuse the readers.

If the readers don’t understand so many tips, how can they adopt a few in their lives?

  • Most experienced writers need to catch up on this point. I often see stories with 5, 7, 9, 20, and even 51 tips! These posts need to be corrected.

Top bloggers whose stories go viral in the top-ranking publications also commit this mistake.

A single tip is more effective than many tips in a blog advising the readers.

  • If you share a very long list of tips, say 9, 12, or 20, the readers will be lost in the long listicles. They will be confused about the tips, misunderstood, and dilemma about which tip should be adopted first.

If you share very few or only one tip in a blog post, the readers will easily understand and follow the advice.

  • Are you convinced that a single or two tips are better than many?

I am convinced that less is always better than more.

If not, let’s take a practical example from the world of education.

A single question is more straightforward to answer within a day than ten questions at a time after ten days.

  • Say a teacher gives students homework consisting of ten questions and asks them to submit the completed assignment within a week.

  • The students would take time to read and answer the questions.

  • Some students can complete the assigned homework on time, while others will miss some questions.

  • On the other hand, suppose another teacher gives only one or two questions as an assignment.

This teacher gives only one or two days for completion and submission.

In this case, for only one or two questions, the teacher would get almost all of the students, except a few naughty ones, to submit the assignment on time.

  • I tested this experiment with my students while teaching in engineering colleges.

Most of the time, my students were able to submit a single-question assignment within one day. However, they often failed with multiple-question assignments and deadlines that lasted many days.

Don’t share more than a single tip in your blog.

  • A single piece of advice is easier to understand and follow.

  • Many tips make the advisory points complex and challenging to follow.

If you have read the short article, you might have understood why reducing the number of tips in your blog or vlog is necessary.

That is quite true. Less is more. But I think the reason behind the numerous tips in one post is... because of the Google algorithm... I read a few articles before that the higher the number, the higher chance you will get to be on the first page of the search results. It's the same with article length... The thing is, we HUMANS have short attention span.

I haven't heard about the number of Google search listings. Your chances of reaching the top of the search listings depend on the platform's internal SEO settings. LinkedIn Pulse publisher used to it. After Microsoft acquired LinkedIn, they dismantled Pulse and introduced their dumb publisher and other office features. Now, LinkedIn's SEO has deteriorated (I think so).

Unfortunately, my workspace uses mostly microsoft. At the moment though, since my laptop died on me, I am using mostly my Huawei Tablet. So less Microsoft for me.
