Social media runs on Linux and open-source software.

While most of us use mainstream social media and may think that they must be running using proprietary software. However, the truth is the opposite.

Most social media giants run on some or other variant of Linux and open-source software. Just name the social media networks. It would not surprise that the social media run on Linux OS and open-source software.

Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter all run on Linux. LinkedIn ran entirely on Linux and open-source software until LinkedIn was purchased (acquired) by Microsoft's proprietary software giant in 2016. The users know how the owner of Microsoft spoiled the writing platform on LinkedIn!

The new decentralized social media runs on Linux and open-source software

The new-age social media based on decentralized and federated nodes of connected communities, including GNU Social, Mastodon, Nextcloud Social (a microblogging platform similar to Twitter), Pixelfed (distributed photo sharing), and Peertube (distributed video sharing), odysee-dot-com (decentralized video platform ruining with LBRY blockchain protocol).

There is no end to it. The future of social media is poised for more and more Linux and open-source software adoptions.
