What do you drink regularly?

I drink a lot of water, and sometimes milk. I wouldn't say I like liquors, such as whiskey, ram, or wines. I like fruit juices. But, I prefer to eat fresh fruits to bottled fruit juice.

Fresh fruits contain natural vitamins.

Don't go away from fresh fruits. It gives you a sufficient supply of vitamins to your body. Artificial fruit juices don't provide the nutrients with an actual fruit can.

Have you ever drank coconut water?

Coconut water is a healthy drink. By the way, have I described what coconut water is? Let me do that first.

What is coconut water?

Coconut water is the water found inside coconuts. Both green and ripen coconuts have water inside. The water content becomes sweeter and less in ripened coconut than the green ones.

Coconut milk and water are not the same things. Coconut milk is a combination of coconut water with grated coconut. The taste of coconut water may also vary from place to place.

Benefits of drinking coconut water

In most tropical regions, such as India, Srilanka, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, the Caribbean islands, and elsewhere coconut water has been a part of regular diets for many years.

Coconut water has been in regular healthcare practices in ancient India. Most practitioners of traditional Ayurvedic medicine often advise coconut water to patients having digestion, urination, and semen production problems.

Coconut water has become a part of a healthy diet because coconut water helps to stay hydrated. Coconut water does not have fat and cholesterol, and hence it is low in calories. However, some health nutritionists advise people with high blood pressure not to have coconut water frequently.

Electrolytes

  • Coconut water contains a decent amount of naturally available electrolytes. One cup of coconut water has 600 milligrams (mg) trusted source of potassium, which is almost 16 percent of the daily value requirements. Potassium plays an essential role in the human body, including helping kidney function and muscle contractions.

  • Health and nutritionists also believe that coconut water may be a substitute for sports drinks because coconut water contains more potassium than any commercial sports drink.

  • Moreover, coconut water has fewer carbohydrates than most sports drinks. Therefore, coconut water may not provide an energy boost during a strenuous workout, but it can help rehydration afterward.

Low-calorie hydration

The calorie content of coconut water gives hope to calorie-conscious people. One cup of it contains about 45 calories. Coconut water can be considered an excellent substitute for soft drinks, such as sodas and juices, typically high in calories, sugars, and carbohydrates.

Many people, who do not like to drink water, may try to have coconut water throughout the day to remain hydrated.

The general benefits of being hydrated are many.

  • It boosts energy levels

  • It supports general digestive power

  • It improves the cognition power

  • It helps to reduce joint pain

  • It can naturally manage body weight

  • It can prevent kidney stone formation

  • It helps to regulate the body temperature

  • It can reduce the occurrence of headaches

  • It can improve the heart health

Nutritious elements

Coconut water contains many nutritional elements other than potassium. It contains some other essential elements, such as calcium and a little bit of magnesium, which no commercial soft drinks can provide.

  • A cup full of coconut water contains 600 mg of potassium, whereas a banana contains a source of 420 mg of potassium.

  • It is well-known that potassium helps keep a balanced level of fluid and electrolytes in the human body. Having lower sources of sodium makes coconut water a choice to balance out the sodium effects on blood pressure.

  • Calcium is essential to humans for strengthening bones and teeth and helping muscle contraction abilities. A cup full of coconut water contains about 56 mg of calcium and 4% of the human body's required daily value of calcium.

  • Magnesium is essential to help move potassium and calcium to the muscles. Magnesium also contributes to the production of energy and the functioning of the body organs. One cup full of coconut water has about 60 mg of magnesium, about 14% of the human body's required daily value of magnesium.

Coconut water is not fully adequate for the human body's total calcium or magnesium requirements. Hence, humans also need to absorb nutritional elements from other sources.

Benefits to Heart health

Coconut water has an excellent benefit for the human heart. Coconut water's potassium content may help reduce blood pressure. An older study claims coconut water may reduce the risk of heart diseases. However, people must consult qualified medical doctors for dietary advice.

Antioxidant property

Antioxidants help in neutralizing oxidative stress. Coconut water possesses beneficial antioxidant properties. Although many research studies were conducted to unfurl the antioxidation of coconut water, very few were on human subjects. One of the recent research studies of the antioxidants in coconut water considered rats as the subjects, published in 2016.

Benefits in controlling blood sugar

  • Drinking sugary beverages may be hazardous to diabetic patients. Coconut water does not contain sugar, and hence it is safe for diabetic people. However, coconut water sometimes may contain a naturally sweetened taste, so the intake should be limited.

An interesting research study on rats model of diabetes, carried out in 2015, found that coconut water helped improve blood sugar control and reduce blood sugar levels.

Benefits to kidney health

A research study of 2018 carried out on participants without any kidney stones showed that coconut water resulted in losing more citrate, chloride, and potassium in their urine samples. It indicated that coconut water might help to lose stones and prevent stone formation.

In a 2021 research study with rats, it has been found that coconut water has similar benefits to rats. Thus, drinking coconut water may help kidney damage from diabetes.

Benefits in maintaining a healthy skin

  • 2015 research study also found that coconut water prevented damage from the free radicals in the rat subjects. Another research study carried out in 2017 found that coconut water's antimicrobial properties may help fight acne.

I drink coconut water without knowing its benefits

I drink coconut water since early childhood. In fact, most people in the tropical region, are fond of the whole coconut. I also introduced my son to coconut water when he was a kid. He is in his late teens now and likes coconut water very much.

Have a view of a funny coconut water drinking challenge in the southern part of India called Tamilnadu. It also shows how coconuts are being brought down from tall coconut trees and are cut to help drink water.

I was not a part of this video. I live far away from this place. But, I have visited a number of times, and I have many friends from this location! The video is embedded for informational purposes only. I don't endorse the products of this channel.

I am glad to notice several health benefits of coconut water

Nutrition researchers have been carrying out research studies on the health benefits of coconut water. Preliminary results (some on humans and rats) found noticeable health benefits.

I have tried to write a brief about the benefits of coconut water. I am writing it for informational purposes only. More interested readers may refer to the research reports and publications.

I like the taste of coconut water and the white material of partially ripe coconut. We also prepare sweet dishes/cakes with matured coconut. We sometimes put it in fish curries.

Coconut is also a beautiful metaphor to exemplify some special human characters who look/behave very tough from the outside but are very kind-hearted from the inside.
