Scientific inventions are the results of the deep thinking of curious humans.

  • Humans are born thinkers. Any human can think of new things and invent new principles and devices. History shows that remarkable inventions came into existence due to the never-ending curiosity of humans.

Scientific invention is not the patented job of the so-called scientists.

  • Even actors and performing artists can innovate and invent path-breaking principles of science and technology.

Hedy Lamarr, a beautiful Hollywood actress, invented the path-breaking frequency-hopping technique and system.

Hedy Lamaar's invention laid the groundwork for today's WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth.

Lamarr's story is a unique example of passion for new knowledge.

Hedy Lamarr has her root in Vienna but later settled in the US.

She was not only a beautiful actress and confined to acting, but she also took a serious interest in solving the technological problems of radio-controlled torpedos during World War II.

Hedy Lamarr teamed up with music composer friend George Antheil. They came up with a new idea of frequency-hopping. Their idea was to rapidly switch or "hop" across multiple frequencies following a synchronized pattern known to the transmitting person and the receiver but not to the enemy.

  • Although the US military didn't use Lamarr and Antheil's technique until 1960, their frequency-hopping system forms the basis for today's modern gadgets, including WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth.

In 1997, Hedy Lamarr and George Antheil were honored with the Electronic Frontier Foundation Pioneer Award.

Long live the curiosity of the human mind.

  • The unique story of Hedy Lamarr is proof that curious and inventive minds can always impact the realms of science and technology.

It doesn't matter whether the fields of passion and work don't overlap.

  • Although gender is natural, Hedy Lamarr's story celebrates the contribution of women in science and technology.

Cheers!
