The Environment Performance Index.

Thursday
Good morning! Everyone,
Recently an index called "Environment performance Index 2022" report was published. It can be guessed what information is it supposed to provide us with. This report is published by the Yale center for environmental law and policy and the center for Intertional earth science information network. This index report is published every other year.
The index was supposed to compare the countries on the basis of its certain forty parameters and according to different categories and it judges countries on the basis of climate change, ecosystem vitality, and environmental health.
In the report published India took the lowest place that is 180th rank in comparison with 180 countries with a score of 18.9 EPI. And some other countries which took the lowest places are Myanmar, Vietnam, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and some other south Asian countries.
Well, India slams that this report is published on an unreasonable parameter, it can be both affirmative or negative because as I have witnessed in various conference and others report in past few months, I've observed that all other countries especially some of the most developed countries have been praising India on its commitment for voluntary climate goal and also have been praising on its performance in a past couple of years regarding its stand on climate change. We have outperformed in some aspects regarding environmental protection against our dedicated targets.
No doubt India is a developing country with a population of 1.4 billion and therefore there is already a lot of competency for the resources and managing welfare programs, schemes for the benefaction of the lower and middle-class families, and subsidising resources. So, a lot of money is diverted for the economic well-being of the citizens of a country that is so diverse both in terms of flora and fauna. And while saying that I must mention that developing countries like India cannot rigorously adopt a cleaner and greener technology as it will bereave a lot of citizens of their employment and the country will be pushed into one of the darkest crises but still India is trying to strike a balance between both the factors. It is up to the developed countries how helpful they have been in slowing down the climate change as these developed countries were supposed to pool a sum of $100 billion a year by 2020 but this commitment is so far from being realised to its words.
Now, an interesting thing that catches my eye is witnessing Afghanistan securing a rank of 81 but then I must say that what type of development is even being going there that they would be contributing something to the degrading health of earth. And how were these organisations were able to get the data for Afghanistan?
Thank you!
