Ethan had a bunch of people hanging out with him after school when he spotted Sawyer walking across the parking lot alone. Sawyer looked as though he were in a hurry. Ethan told his friend Lance to run after and stop Sawyer. Lance went running after and caught him just as he was about to step into his jeep.
Sawyer was slightly unnerved and gave out a look of warning to Lance, then Lance pointed to Ethan. Sawyer looked at what Lance was pointing at and fury rebirthed in Sawyer's face and he hurriedly climbed into his jeep. Ethan took off for him.
When Sawyer had his car cranked and his gear put in drive he looked up to see Ethan standing in front of the jeep. Sawyer shook his head. Ethan understood what that mean't but he didn't budge. Ethan motioned toward his heart, signed that it was breaking. He ran his fingers down Sawyer's jeep so Sawyer wouldn't drive away. Sawyer already had his window down.
Ethan got inches toward the door when Sawyer punched out at Ethan. Ethan cowered but only slightly.
"Do you think it's ok to punch somebody in the face one day and then love on them the next Ethan? I don't think so. I'm not your punching bag and I am not someone you take out your frustrations on."
"Sawyer I was on my medication. I am still sick. You turned the TV up as loud as it could go. You literally busted my eardrums. Should you really expect anything less? You're lucky I didn't beat your ass. Anybody else would have."
"That's why you need to be in your own room at your own house where nobody can do that to you. Don't blame the medicine. You were flipping out on me all day. I got tired of it."
"I am still sick Sawyer!"
"Then until you get better my suggestion to you is to stay away from me."
Sawyer floored the gas pedal; his sideview mirror hitting Ethan and knocking him off his feet.
Six people went rushing over to help Ethan.
"That bastard." Lane Gypsy screeched.
"He needs his ass beat," Nathan Lesky hissed.
"No. No. It's my fault. I should've left him alone. I hit him yesterday and he's still pissed off about it," Ethan said, allowing his friends to help him up. "Leave him alone."
"You need to stay away from him Ethan. He's crazy. The whole school thinks so," Nathan said.
"I know the whole school hates him Nathan." Ethan said. "Let's drop it and go to the varsity. I need to take my medicine."
Ethan and his friends left the school parking lot and went to the varsity to hang out.
Ethan thought about what Sawyer said the entire time he hung out at the varsity. His friends could tell he was a million miles away.
What puzzled Ethan the most was the fact that deep down Sawyer was right. Ethan had been kinda cruel to him, and he had been doing it on purpose. He had done it because Sawyer had gone out on a date with Annabelle. He hated it.
He thought about how he could fix the matter with Sawyer. Knew he had to take responsibility for his part. Maybe Sawyer shouldn't have almost hit him with his jeep, but Ethan had no right standing in front of it either. Sawyer has every right in the world to drive out of the school parking lot when he feels like it. Ethan knew he had no right barging in on Sawyer like he did. In fact he'd been doing that a lot. From the time he called the vice principal to hold Sawyer accountable to his contract, to the times he ran after Sawyer when Sawyer was mad at him. Now Ethan was barging in on him at home by living with him, and even had the audacity to hit him. Ethan felt like he was terrible person. "I don't know how Sawyer does it," he said out loud.
Ethan stayed at the varsity until 7pm. He had a salad and something healthy to drink. His friends kept him company. Ethan himself did his best to keep Sawyer off the subject of conversation. He'd almost forgotten anything had happened between them until he'd forgotten himself and headed in the direction of his house instead of Sawyers'. Whoa, I live at Sawyer's now, Ethan said, making a U turn.
Ethan drove to Sawyer's house a little nervous. He couldn't believe he still had feelings for him even after what had happened. It had been almost three months since he and Sawyer had gotten close. And one heck of a ride.
When Ethan got back to the house everyone was asleep. All the lights were off and there wasn't a single sound. When Ethan walked into his room he saw Sawyer laying on his back. Ethan proceeded to change into his night clothes. When he was finished, Sawyer's voice rang through the room.
"I didn't mean to knock you down earlier today. I just didn't feel comfortable in front of all your friends."
