"Ethan, every time I get near you I wind up experiencing difficulty of some kind. Since we've parted ways I haven't had any drama, hardly any inconveniences, and my life is getting back to the way it was. I explained to your low life friends I am tutoring you in calculus and now they've started leaving me alone again, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome ........ besides you will meet new people in college. Why waste time and energy on me?"

Ethan just shook his head in disagreement. Cheeks red, Ethan let Sawyer go. Once the front door closed, Ethan fell to the floor and sobbed like a little child.

Ethan jogged around his neighborhood in deep thought. He had four in a half more months before school ended, and only a month in a half left with Sawyer as his tutor. He kept wondering what he could do to salvage his relationship with him. Not only that, but he also wanted to revive the connection that was there. Unfortunately, he didn't have any ideas on how to do that.

"I don't really know how to salvage the relationship mom. I've done everything I know to do."

"And you say it's because of the school, right?"

"Well everybody has been sticking their nose in the friendship and making things hard for him. They've told him he's not good enough for me, and laugh at him. He says they aren't doing it anymore so he'd prefer not to be in a friendship with me."

"Why does this mean so much to you Ethan?"

"Because he's the first real friend I've made, that's why."

"You could go to the principal. They have a way of desciplining the whole school when stuff like this occurs."

"Really."

"Yes. I'll go with you tomorrow."

"Thanks Mom."

Mrs. Fester and Ethan make their way through the school and into the principal's office early the next morning. Mr. Sanc was a serious man and no pushover. He'd be hard to handle if you didn't weigh your words carefully.

Mr. Sanc walked into his office looking like a man on a mission. Funny thing about it was so did Mrs. Fester.

"What can I do for you two?"

"Yes," Mrs. Fester said, beating Ethan to the punchline. "I am here today to inquire about your policy on school bullying."

"Why? What seems to be the problem?"

"I'm on the school board. Which means I could have your job. Answer the question Mr. Sanc. Don't ask any."

Mr. Sanc was literally knocked backwards.

"Uh. Uh. Well of course our school is against anything heinous like that Mrs. Fester."

"One of your students is experiencing it."

"Which one?"

"A very prominent one," Mrs Fester said.

"I'm taking it to the next school board meeting if it's not taken care of. His name is Sawyer Lancelot. Do not disrupt this boys high school career over this matter either."

"Well thank you Mrs Fester. I will see what I can do."

Mrs. Fester bade Ethan farewell and told him to keep her posted.

He promised. "Bye Mr Sanc." Mrs. Fester marched out of the office.

Ethan ran the next race with a huge smile and all the hope in the world. He won first place. A lot of people tried to congratulate him but they were cut off. Ethan ran to the back of the bleachers and rested, pouring sweat.

He pulled out his phone.

"Sawyer," he texted. "I won the final race of my senior year."

Of course, he knew Sawyer wasn't going to text back, but he had to keep up impressions.

Afterwards, he hurried off to his car before anyone else could find him.

When Ethan and Sawyer were friends, Sawyer told Ethan about a place he'd go to to unwind or to be alone. It was at this nice lake with a bridge over it. There were lights that shone over the waters every night year round, sky blue in color.

Ethan had been wanting to check it out for the longest. He actually pictured doing it with Sawyer. Tonight though, after having won his final race of the year, decided to go and to check it out on his own.

There was a small surprise for him there to.

Sawyer stood over the lake and watched the ships sail across the waters. He'd been coming here since he was old enough to drive. Had actually found it by accident.

Now, he enjoyed the cool breeze that blew by. It was getting nippy, but perfect for tonight.

He thought about a lot of things. He thought about his grades. He thought about his parents. He also thought about college and went back and forth mentally still trying to decide where he wanted to go. He wished he could say he was going to miss this place. But he wasn't.

He not to long ago received a text from Ethan, informing him he had won the schools final race. Apparently Ethan didn't understand what Sawyer meant by "leave me alone." Sawyer hardly had the words to describe that particular situation. No words at all.

Ethan parked by a rocky road that dipped upward onto the ground from the street. It was very becoming. Ethan got out slowly and looked around. It was quite breath taking. He'd been to this area before, he realized. During the day it was even more amazing. It was so impressive rich movie stars lived there. Ethan had seen it for himself.

He walked on and began to search for the bridge Sawyer had mentioned. It didn't take too long before he found it.
