Every little Bit Counts
Guys, the tank for our shower heater has sprung a leak.
I didn't notice the leak at first, it was barely noticeable, and I thought that the water gathering at the base of the tank was as the result of condensation, but after some time, the droplets grew bigger, started to fall, made a little puddle which grew bigger, and now we've had to put a bucket beneath the tank to collect the water which falls, plop, plop, plop, every second, filling the bucket.
When the bucket is full, we'll have to empty it and put it under the tank again until we can find someone to repair the leak. And, guys, because I find inspiration in the most random things, this little leak made me think of an old proverb that is often repeated in my country, and that is that every little drop fills a bucket. The philosophy behind this saying is that you don't have to reach for plenty to make a lot. And so, say for example, with blogging, if you have a vision and you invest in that vision, then little by little, drop by drop, you'll get there. Let's discuss.
The Journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step
I'll start with a quick confession, guys.
While blockchain writing and cryptocurrency is not my area of expertise, I am a writer with several years' professional experience.
In a nutshell, I've been writing professionally for more than 20 years. In this time, I've written as a journalist, worked in the private sector, held senior positions in major corporations, edited magazines, lectured at universities. I've done consultancy, written books, attended conferences, written papers, and delivered speeches.
Today, here I am writing under a pen name on the blockchain for pennies on the dollar, and you may wonder why. I could be flippant and say that I'm a free spirit. That would be true. I could say that I crave my professional independence. That would also be true. But those responses would simply capture a transient feeling or what I'm thinking in the moment. The real core of the reason that I devote so much time here is because I believe in the future growth of blockchain blogging, my long term vision is to grow as a blogger, and I'm planting a seed.
Beginning on Platform 9 3/4
Maybe you guys got the Harry Potter reference, maybe you didn't, right? As a writer though, stepping into this realm of blogging- if you're doing it full time- could put you on the fringes of "normal" society. When your blogging intersects with cryptocurrency, you're heading into an entirely new, magical world platform- dashing through the walls of mainstream finance to land on platform 9 3/4.
Publish0X
I came across Publish0x in February, 2021 while I was surfing the web and reading about cryptocurrency. I read an article on the site and then saw the promo: "Earn crypto for publishing and for reading or watching quality stuff...", and I was like, okay, you don't need to ask me twice.
I joined Publish0x and then forgot about it for a bit. A few months later, crypto prices starting pumping and everyone was talking about it. I began reading a bit more, and in October, I returned to Publish0x, applied to write, was accepted, and I've been on that site since then.
On Publish0x, I started with the goal of simplifying cryptocurrency so that developments in the industry could be palatable to the everyday Joe who may not immediately grasp or even be attracted to content about blockchain and finance, and I created the persona of a chatty, little gossip, I-HODL, who was always inviting friends in to exchange tea and the latest news that I came across.
Guys, I'll confess, it was difficult going at first. Taking a heavy topic, conducting research to ensure that you've covered your bases, putting pieces together about random developments, and trying to create a thread of daily chatter takes time and effort. When earnings are low, it could be daunting, but every independent writer knows this lesson well:
Write because you love to write and not because you want to make money writing. The latter would come if the first is your focus.
If you start blogging with a dollar figure in mind, after a few days of not meeting that dollar figure, you'd quit.
I've learned had to learn this lesson before and I understood that writing on blockchain would be no different. I kept on going.
Read.Cash
While writing for Publish0x, I learned about read.cash from other bloggers, and I decided to join.
I've been active here for a short time, I think just about a month, maybe less. During this time, I've joined different communities, cross-posted content from Publish0x, shared a few personal stories, hopped on to a couple challenges, posted, deleted, observed.
About a week ago, I figured out the content that would be most applicable for me here, and you'd see that coming together in the days and weeks ahead.
For me, my writing is a product that I take seriously, and for that product to be consistent, I need to understand and create a profile of my target audience, so that the persona or the voice I use matches the needs of my audience.
As a writer, as a content creator, you are only as successful as your audience deems you to be.
Now, writing for your audience doesn't mean that you don't have to be authentic. Your strongest voice is always your authentic voice.
For me, as writer, the personas I create and the content I write about is based on matching who I am and what I believe in, what stand for or what I am interested in with the interests of the people I am interacting with or speaking to, finding common ground and building a relationship from there.
And on that topic, the beautiful thing about read.cash is that the core of its strength lies in networking. You can't just write content and walk away and expect interaction with your work while leaving other writers hanging.
This is a platform where you earn tips from the Random Rewarder, but also from fellow bloggers, right? And so, if you want to be truly successful, you can't expect tips when you don't give them. You can't expect readers to flock to your content if you don't visit theirs.
From what I've seen, the Random Rewarder co-signs your work if your content is good, yes, but also if you engage with other writers and they engage with you. Those are the rules of engagement: you give to get. And, to be honest, it's a beautiful concept.
LeoFinance/ Hive/ Peakd
While on read.cash, I learned from other writers on both this site and Publish0x about LeoFinance and Hive and Peakd, and needless to say, I joined under the pseudonym: trifecta-tt.
I'm still learning on Hive. I joined a free writing community where I share poetry and fictional short stories, but I haven't established the core of my work yet. I'll be sure to share with you guys when I do. I did learn though that, like read.cash, the core of its strength is network. Quality content is important on Hive, yes, very important, but the relationships you build is also very important.
Medium
Yesterday I joined Medium, went in behind the paywall and created the profile, Trifecta. I'm still setting up my profile, I haven't written anything there yet, but I already have three followers, yay! 97 more to go and I'd make the 100 minimum. I'd share more on that journey as well.
Block by Block and You'll Build a Castle
And so, guys, from surfing the web to writing on one platform, I'm now creating content for at least four, and I think I've still got room for a few more.
Today, when I look back at the cadre of work that I've created over these past few months, I think of the tank, I think of the leaking drops of water, and I think of the bucket. I've got little drops of water falling- plop, plop, plop- into my bucket, and I feel confident that with time, those little individual drops would turn into streams, because when it comes to writing, I have no intention of stemming the leak.
I have invested and am investing time and effort because my goal is to grow as a writer and I am encouraging each of you writers to do the same.
If you do what you love, it's not work
When I was a kid growing up, whenever an adult asked me, what I wanted to be when I grow up, I'd always answer: I want to be a writer.
And so here I am, still pursuing that dream. And rather than just writing aimlessly on Facebook, for example, or writing for a corporation about things that aren't authentic to me, I write on the blockchain.
I make new connections around the world and I learn that- geography aside, different cultures aside- no matter where we are or who we are, at the core, we are the same, our experiences are the same, our motivations are the same.
On this platform, I am inspired by the work of @Talecharm all the time, and I find common ground with @BCH-lover. I've learned to have an open mind from interacting with @Lucifer who was the first blogger to welcome me to this platform. I really love work by @Olasquare which is always well articulated and in-depth. There are so many of you that I follow and write excessively long passages in response to your posts, not because I want to be verbose, god knows I don't, but because your work really resonates with me and has taught me a lot.
Anyways, my friends, this is my blog for today. This is my update on my journey. I won't post my earnings because I don't want to distract from the point of my writing, but I will suffice to say that I have come a long way from my first day writing online, and I am encouraged to continue. Ultimately, I firmly believe that if we walk a little every day, the day will come when we will look back and marvel at the distance we have covered.
Have a great day!
