Why Believers Should Stop Making Vows.

Many believers today indulge in the act of paying vows so that there prayer requests can be answered quickly...I wonder if this should be so. The bible says Christ is the end of the law, so why should believers still use vows to get things done from God?

You can make a vow to God but you can't make a covenant with God. Every Divine-Human Covenant in the Bible was initiated by God and not by man.

You don't even need to make any vow to God. No father demands a vow from his son. People made vows in the Old Testament because they were servants and not sons. A son who knows his father's love does not make vows to him. He enjoys his love naturally. Search the New Testament you won't find any instruction for Children of God to make vows to their Father.

All those who bamboozle you with the "special covenants" they cut with God are either mistaken or lying.

There is only one covenant that is now available for man to gain God's approval - the Covenant Christ made with His precious blood. Every other covenant is invalid to this effect.

My point is we are New Testament ministers. We are not Old Testament ministers, which the Bible calls the ministry of condemnation and death. This is why people feel guilty and condemned when they make vows which they end up not fulfilling on several occasions. We are not supposed to teach what Christ and His Apostles did not teach. Neither Christ nor any of His Apostles taught us to make vows to God. One of the major reasons Christ came is to reveal to us the Fatherhood of God. You will recall this is the first thing He taught His disciples when they asked Him to teach them to pray.

God is our Father, He doesn't need any vow from us. If I may ask, would you as a father demand vows from your children before you bless them? Would it not look absurd to you if your children start making vows to you? How much more God, our magnanimous Father?

I would not put a person who has been redeemed by the blood of Christ at the same level as Hannah, an Old Testament saint, who was under the Mosaic Law since the believer in Christ is into A COVENANT WITH BETTER PROMISES. Jesus Himself said the greatest in the Old Covenant era is less than the least in His Kingdom.

Let the sacrificial death of Christ be sufficient for us as our guarantee before God. Part of our work as ministers of the Gospel is to teach people their liberty in Christ. The Gospel of Christ is simple. Let's keep it so.

Thanks for reading....let's keep growing spiritually and happy Sunday to us all..
