Understanding Fibroids: Causes,Signs, Treatment

The effect of uterine fibroids on pregnancy and it's general influence on fertility. I will like to say this..this is a very sensitive article. In as much as we pray against sickness and diseases as believes.,?. we still find Christians with diseases like uterine fibroids. The most important thing is to take appropriate steps in treating it, yes faith works and I believe in it too. Let me stop there.. God created medicine, sciences and faith.

What is fibroid?

It occurs in the uterus so it's called uterine fibroid. Looking at this article we will see how it affects pregnancy and how pregnancy too affects it.

Uterine fibroids are abnormal growths within the uterus. The uterus is also called the womb. That is where baby grows. That is where menstral periods come from.

The womb has 3 layers

1) The outer layer or perimetrium

2) The middle layer or myometrium

3) The inner layer or endometrium

The uterus has different parts too

1) The fallopian tube where fertilisation takes place

2) The body of the uterus which contains the the layers I mentioned

3) The cervix which leads to the vagina. The cervix is called the mouth of the womb. This is where baby pases out of the womb to the vagina during child birth.

The reason why am mentioning this is because fibroids happen in those parts. Uterine fibroid are abnormal growths within the uterus. It grows there because the uterus is like a cavity. Abnormal growths but usually non cancerous. Fibroids are fibrous tissues. Contains fatty tissues too

fibroma

Some call it false pregnancy because of big tummy and you will be expecting the woman to deliver.

Types of uterine fibroids

Intramural fibroids this occurs within the myometrium

Subserosal fibroids exists between the myometrium

Perimetrium rather.The outer layer of the womb. This occurs within the second layer of the womb

Submucosal fibroids occurs within the innermost layer of the womb . Where periods comes from where baby grows

So tell me how will baby grows when fibroids have become landlords in the womb. People get pregnant with fibroids miracles happen. But you see that submucosal will either cause miscarriage or any other thing. It gains ground for itself big time

Causes of fibroids

1. Genetic cause... it runs in some families

2. Hormonal influence

3. Race... common in some races

4. Early menarche....early onset of mensuration

5. Obesity... Being too far is not healthy

   Lifestyle....eating too much of red meat and fats..leads to obesity

6. Alcoholism

Signs of fibroids

1) Very Heavy menstral periods

2) Pelvic pain

3) Frequent urination

4) Difficulty in emptying the bladder

5) Constipation

6) Back ache / waist pain

7) Increasing abdominal girth......tummy increases in size

Note this can occur in other diseases too. Don't start calling fibroids when u start passing urine.

Diagnosis of uterine fibroid is by doing an ultrasound. And examination by a gynaecologist

So how it affects pregnancy

When people say marry early, they are not totally wrong.. but do not rush into marrying just anybody...you can't have fibroids. This is because the womb is a cavity if u don't give it something to carry it will fill it by itself especially if the person has a genetic link.

Fibroids comes in various sizes. Some as big as a baby 3kg, some 4kg. Some presses the fallopian tube that fertilisation can't take place. Some becomes landlords and causes miscarriages. Some causes severe bleeding that the woman bleeds for like 15 days out if 30 days in a month with heavy cloths and severe pain. Some women have low blood volume..making them so pale and weak

I hope we can see how it causes infertility. Majority of women get pregnant and carry their babies to term immediately the fibroids are fine..if there are no other factors causing the infertility

Treatment

Firstly, I want to beg all women here to avoid herbs...herbal concoction they sell on the street. Am sorry I do not like them because they do more harm than good. They tell women to take them to treat toilet infections etc

Those 3 layers of the uterus can gum together, it can only take serious expertise to release them, if not the woman becomes infertile for life. At times... but when something is going wrong you won't know.

Fibroids happen to older women before... Now it happens to young unmarried ladies. I have nursed a 22 year old before and no one had it in her family...may God have mercy on us.

The only acceptable treatment of fibroids are provided in the hospital by a gynaecologist. Usually Myomectomy....surgical removal of the fibroids

When people use too much herb's, some causes the fibroids to adhere to the uterus, some use harsh solutions that even seal up their vagina and still end up doing the surgery later. I have seen a woman who had no vagina hole again because she was pouring a concoction to shrink fibroid. She had to do cosmetic surgery to open up the vagina. Another woman had all her uterus glued together and had to remove the uterus when she was bleeding so much.

Surgery if properly done does not kill. Lets prevent further complications. As a young lady or married woman when u start having heavy bleeding with clots...pleases see a Doctor. Some women have it and have their babies with no issues.

In conclusion take charge of ur health and don't run away from good treatment options, it's better to live than to die.
