Ways to accelerate and improve computer performance

You may have noticed more than once while you are working on your Windows PC, some slowdowns or not responding to commands.

This happens for several reasons that are easy to deal with, and although many emergency problems often end when restarting the computer, it is better to search for the causes of hardware slowdown problems and give some time to implement some of these procedures to avoid their recurrence.

Ways to speed up the computer and solve slow performance problems:

1- Find programs that consume resources:

To find out which programs consume a lot of system resources, open the Task Manager by right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting the command from the menu, or by using the key combination (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) together or the keys (Ctrl + Alt + Del) and choosing Task Manager

Close the program that consumes a lot of resources, if the program cannot be closed in the usual way, select it in the task manager and click "End task" to force it to close.

2- Close hidden programs inside the notification area:

Some programs tend to run in the background of the operating system. These programs run automatically when the operating system boots, and they consume some of the device’s resources, so if you do not need them click on the up arrow in the notification area (next to the date and time) to open the so-called ( System Tray) and right-click on the icon of the desired program to close it and save some device resources if you do not need to run it now.

3- Disable the automatic operation of programs:

Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 offer a quick way to shut down auto-starters, as well as give you information about how much effect these programs have on booting, making it easier to know.

Open the "Task Manager" by right-clicking on the taskbar, choosing the command from the menu, or by using the key combination (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) or the keys (Ctrl + Alt + Del) and choosing Task Manager

Click the Startup tab and stop the programs you do not want to start at boot.

4- Reducing visual effects:

Windows uses very few graphical visual effects, which may slow down your computer.

For example, Windows can reduce or enlarge windows instantly if you disable the associated visual effects.

This applies to appearance versus performance - that is, if you prefer Windows to run faster or look better, and if your computer is fast enough, you do not have to compromise on such features.

To do so, go to Control Panel and select System or click (Win + Pause).

From the System window, choose "Advanced System Settings" from the side menu.

Click the Settings button under the Performance section

5- Reduce the effect of web browsers:

Some add-ons and extensions use up processor resources and slow down your computer.

Add-ons and extensions perform additional tasks in the browser, but they may cause slowdowns in the device (such as attachments for running Flash components).

Turn off unnecessary plugins and extensions in your web browser.

6- Checking for viruses and spyware

Malicious programs (viruses) and spyware slow down your computer and reduce its performance.

You can check for viruses and spyware using anti-virus programs, either paid or free, and Windows includes a Windows Defender tool.

You can also use Malwarebytes to detect downloaded unwanted software that antivirus software might not detect.

7- Hard disk cleaning

Your hard disk might contain a lot of unnecessary files that take up a lot of space and can slow down your computer.

Windows includes a Disk Cleanup feature that removes temporary files, empties the Recycle Bin, removes a variety of system files, temporary files, temporary Internet files, and other items that you no longer need.

Right-click on your hard disk and select the command "Properties" and click on the "Disk Cleanup" button under the "General" tab.

Select the items you wish to remove and click "OK".

8- Defragment your hard disk

Disk Defragmenter re-arranges fragmented data so that your hard disk runs more efficiently. Disk Defragmenter runs on a scheduled basis, but you can also defragment your hard disk manually.

Right-click on your hard disk and select the command “Properties”, click on the “Tools” tab, then select Click the “Optimize” button under the “Optimize and defragment drivers” section.

9- Delete unused programs at all

It is best to uninstall all programs that you do not intend to use.

Go to "Control Panel" and go to "Uninstall programs"

You can also type uninstall in the Control Panel's search box for quick access

You can also type Uninstall in the search box on the taskbar (Windows 10) and choose (Uninstall programs).

Right-click on the program you want to remove, or select the program and click the "Uninstall" button and follow the removal steps.

10- System Restore / Reset the Computer:

If the previous methods failed to fix your problem, the last solution to solve your problem is a system restore.

If the problem is that your computer is not working properly and you recently installed an application, driver, or update then restore the system from a system restore point.

If your computer is not working properly, and it has been some time since you installed an application or driver or performed an update, you must reset your computer.

By restoring from a system restore point, you can roll your computer back to an earlier point, called a system restore point. Restore points are created when you install a new application, driver, or Windows system update. Restore will not affect your personal files, but will remove installed applications, drivers, and updates after the restore point is created.

The System Restore feature is available in Windows 10 and previous versions of Windows 10, while the Reset PC feature is available in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 versions.

To restore the system:

From the Contron Panel, choose Recovery> Open System Restore> Next.

Choose a restore point, then select Next> Finish. (Finish)

To reset the computer:

In versions of Windows 8, 8.1 and 10, it is very easy to reinstall Windows more than ever. You will not need Windows installation media and reinstall Windows again, instead all you have to do is use the "Reset your PC" feature built into the system. .

This feature will reinstall programs and system settings while preserving your files.

The restore feature is accessed through the settings window.

To open Windows settings, press Ctrl + X and select “Settings” from the menu, then choose “Update & Securety” from the Settings page, then “Reset this PC” and then “Get started” (Get started).

Finally remember:

Having an SSD helps speed up computers.

Most modern portable devices are equipped with such drives, if your computer is running on traditional mechanical disks it is a good idea to switch to SSD drives for better performance.
