The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that it is obligatory for every Muslim man and woman to acquire education. The first utterance of the Holy Quran is - "Read in the name of the Lord who created". In other words, education has been given special importance in Islam. Education can be multi-faceted. A type of education for the purpose of meeting the needs of real life, which we call action-oriented education. Other types of education include intellectual practice, theoretical thinking, philosophy of life, scientific thinking, practical education, and so on. But the main goal of education is mental and intellectual development. And the issue of moral values closely associated with mental development. Acquiring religious education is essential for creating moral values.
Religious education is a form of life-centered education centered on religion. Religion does not teach discipline only to some people. Religious education is a way of reflecting the overall nature of human life through religious discipline. Moral values are an important part of this education. At one time, the discipline of religious institutions was the principle of education.
In the past, education meant the predominance of religious education. At present, education is being considered as a secular social issue in many countries of the world. Many educational institutions in Bangladesh are run under the auspices of religious institutions. Religious matters have been introduced in a completely separate way of education - madrasa education. There are as well. Secular modern education, but in this way religious education was not excluded. It is noteworthy that in the name of modern education, personal interests, self-centeredness, divisiveness and immorality have been associated with the education sector. As a result, the basic purpose of education is being disrupted. It is true that the middle class society of Bangladesh is increasing the rate of education by getting education, but this education is not able to stop their moral decay. As a result, in the current social context, the importance of religious education has become a matter of consideration.
Most of the people in Bangladesh are religious. Adherence to the rules of religion is very important to the people of this country. On the other hand, the lack of true religious knowledge is at the root of the social decline of our country. Failure to reflect religious teachings properly in life is also one of the reasons for the erosion of moral values.
Religion is introduced for the welfare of the people. One of the goals of Tela Dharma is to make the worldly life of human beings holy, beautiful and smooth. As well as specific guidelines by presenting religion about the afterlife. No religion tolerates injustice, impurity, ugliness and crime. The main purpose of all religions like Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity etc. is to make human life peaceful. Islam says that if the worldly life of man can be built in a beautiful, holy and peaceful way, then peace, happiness and liberation will also come in the worldly life. Islam always calls the people of the world on the path of truth, justice, welfare, brotherhood, peace and generosity. In the education system, it is possible to establish moral values in the life of the students if they can create close acquaintance and involvement with the basic ideals of different religions.
Just as a Muslim student does not have the opportunity to learn about Hinduism, a Hindu student does not have a formal knowledge of Islam. But it is true that it is not possible to create an all-religious barrier to religious generosity, tolerance and moral values without understanding the ideals of one's own religion as well as gaining an understanding of the fundamentals of other religions. In that case the underlying purpose of education is likely to be disrupted. The other side of religious education: time is constantly moving. Characteristics of society, hopes and aspirations are constantly changing. Human expectations evolve in the context of the situation and the environment. But religious thought does not always adapt to the evolution of consciousness and ideal society.
Human values, justice, brotherhood, benevolent attitudes, etc., are essential aspects of religious education. Religious education can play an important role in maintaining social peace, maintaining order, curbing corruption, establishing justice, and fighting against injustice. The necessity of religious education is therefore immense.
