Being a gardener involves more than simply growing your own food. Many garden growers choose to use natural gardening rather than rely on dangerous chemicals. But some pests like flies can be just as dangerous to your plants, if not worse.

The good news is, Fly predators are a natural enemy to flies like the housefly. A fly predator also known as a fly parasite is a tiny wasp that will attack flies, but never humans or animals.

The wasp parasite is a night creature that attacks the bad insects by killing the larvae that are still in the cocoon (immature pupa) stage before they have a chance to emerge into an adult fly, which prevents more eggs from being laid.

Once the pestering fly hatches its eggs after 3 days, the female adult wasp searches for the enemy's cocoon where she will create a hole inside of it.

Once inside, the tiny wasp lays her eggs that will hatch and feed off the fly larvae for up to 3 weeks. The pest's future population is eliminated while a new batch of fly predators emerge and move on to the next cocoon.

Fly predators are essential in controlling the population of pesty flies because they can destroy their eggs and prevent them from reaching adult stage.

The beneficial parasitic wasp works best in the spring when flies are minimal so that they don't have a chance to populate. If the flies are heavily populated, it may be necessary to incorporate additional fly predators at least once a month until the warmer months have ended.
