Life Changes – These 3 things will change your life

Yesterday, I went to Apapa Wharf, Lagos to pick up a package for my aunt. While I was returning from there, a trip that was supposed to take about an hour, took almost 3 hours because of one small thing.

There's a narrow double-lane road, and the road only permits movement in one direction per lane. There was a small hold-up at the junction, which could've delayed us at most, 10 minutes, but no! Some cars from our lane started diverting to the other lane to find an escape route, and cars from the other lane started diverting towards ours too, before long, we were in a locked grid and no one could move at all.

This is exactly how we behave sometimes - we do not think things with respect to long-term consequences. We're not patient enough to actually stick to a correct process until we see the desired result. We're not even patient enough to do the right thing, and it ends up coming back to haunt us in the end. We want progress, we want things to change, but we are not ready to change ourselves. We expect the government and others to effect changes but are not ready to do our part.

I just sat in the car, thought about it, and smiled briefly…

There is a need for us to decide to make positive changes in our lives to effect a greater; decide to do what is right, no matter the price; decide to stick to the process too, no matter the cost. In the long run, it pays better.

And maybe, just maybe, we'll have better individuals and by extension, a better country as we all yearn for.

It's easy to just put the blame on other people or things. It's easier to say the Government, he or they every negative outcome of our decisions, actions, and inaction than it is to take responsibility for the choices that get made in our lives. It's hard to admit that you have a problem, but it's also incredibly easy to blame everything else for your unhappiness.

But what if I told you that the change you desire begins with you? What if I told you that by making positive changes in your life today, you can create a new future for yourself tomorrow?

I know it sounds like a cliché, but hear me out: what would happen if one day instead of blaming other people or circumstances for your problems, you started taking them seriously and began making changes right away? Wouldn’t that make your life better? Wouldn’t it make your relationships better? Wouldn’t it make every aspect of your day better?

Are you ready to start living your best life? If yes, then read on...

I've been asked this question a lot lately. What's the best way to change your life for the better?

We all want to live the best life possible, but sometimes we get stuck in our ways. Stuck in bad habits, or maybe even struggling to break free from them, we often fail to realize that our lives are changing every single day, whether we notice it or not.

There are many reasons why someone would want to change their life. Some are looking to move into a new career or start a family. Others want to improve themselves physically and mentally. Still, some people choose to change their lives because they don’t believe in themselves anymore. Whatever the reason may be, you have to find ways to unlock greater success in every area of your life.

So I decided to write this blog series about some of the things I've learned and experienced that have helped me make positive changes in my life. Hopefully, it will help you too!

I will sum these life-changing steps in 3 points

  1. For things to improve, you have to improve.

  2. For things to get better, you have to get better.

  3. For things to change, you have to change.

I will write extensively on each of the aforementioned points in a different post. Then I will update this post with the link to each of the sequel articles.

I’ll leave you with a great quote that sums up today’s lesson.

“Change starts with you, but it doesn’t start until you do.” Tom Ziglar

Change begins with you. If we are complaining of bad governance, bad habits, bad everywhere, we must realize that for change to really happen, it must start within ourselves first. When we are able to change, people would be willing to change too.

Also when we are willing to change and actually see it through, we will be in a position to change others by our actions.

Many Nigerians are good at blaming the government (though this is understandable) and others for their situation instead of taking charge. The change to achieve the Nigerian dream begins with each of us.

And I hear a lot of "If I'm given the opportunity to rule, I will..." But when they get there, the become worse.
