Christmas, as we all know is the most awaited holiday of the year. It is the most exciting one for the reason that we will be celebrating the day of the Lord that He was born. Also, giving and receiving gifts is the main content. Santas are everywhere. Foods are variety served in the table.
In my case, my Christmas this year is not that good. Not that happy. Why,? I know that you know that our place Southern Leyte is recovering from the recent typhoon Odette which most of us here in our province experienced the worst nightmare so far.
Our house is in the process of repairing its walls and roofs caused by the typhoon. Our house itself is not that ready for the heavy rain to hit again. So, when the rain pours last December 24, 2021, to be honest, we had a sleepless night because our roofs are not new. Mostly are had holed. So, when it rains we didn't have surprised instead we prepared things to catch the leaked from the rain itself such as pales and basins.
My husband and I were in the middle of the night sleeping when the rain pours. We woke up and get the prepared things. It was very a memorable Christmas night since it happened in the middle of the night. After the rain, we just went back to bed and just talked about what had happened regarding our roofs. We laughed and just enjoy the moment.
Then we came to realize that we were still had a happy moment celebrating Christmas even it is the opposite of the real celebration. Hence, we celebrate it saw the to for the whole night. Until the morning comes, we didn't have enough sleep. But we need to get up from bed and start a new day and move on that day and embrace the day which was Christmas day with a thankful and happy heart. 💓
December 25, 2021.
Our day started a busier day where my husband had to help to cook a roasted pig. My husband together with the husbands of my older sisters helped each other to prepare our lunch which was to (katay the baboy) I don't know the English term. Hehehe That day had a sunny day. The sun shines so brightly for the whole day. For sure many people had a happy time celebrating Christmas because it had good weather indeed.
We had our lunch in my sister's house since she had a beautiful house from all of us her siblings. We gathered there at lunchtime. Eating together the food prepared and being served at the table. Since we had no electricity in the whole province, it does not affect the celebration because my sister had a generator to produce electricity. So, we still had a happy time on that day by playing Christmas music and we also had a video inside the house. Maybe we only had the noisiest house in the whole barangay. Lol. 😂 We sing and dance and just enjoy Christmas. Until such time that my other sister called us because she had something for us. A simple present we received from her. My husband received an overruns shirt and I received as well sandals. My daughter received more presents than us. She received a beautiful dress from my sisters, toys, and sandals as well. I can see in her eyes that she had enjoyed her first Christmas.
Ending thoughts:
Even if our Christmas was not that merrier than others because we had just recently been hit by a typhoon, we were still able to celebrate it with a happy face. We still have a lot of memories to keep on the day. It doesn't change the fact that we are still in the midst of a crisis but at least we still give a smile to others. We are still beyond blessed and grateful that we are still alive after fighting the super typhoon Odette just a week ago.
It has indeed been a memorable Christmas for me. It was a great holiday after all the hardships we encountered last week. We are looking forward to welcoming a new year with a hopeful and thankful heart. There is not enough reason to be sad instead there are many reasons to be thankful for and that is to give glory to God in everything. He is in control. There's no need to worry. I should say that LIFE MUST GO ON.
