Turning Weaknesses into Strengths
Accepting the situation and hoping for a better situation are not two contradictory things. Both are complementary and therefore both can be compared, only the timing is different. We accept what has happened and hope for what might happen. Unfortunately, more people lament the bad luck that befell them and are disappointed with what they get, and more often worry about their future.
There are concerns that are valuable and some are detrimental. Worry is said to be valuable if it can encourage someone to take anticipatory action against various possibilities in the future, such as a student who studies hard because he realizes that if he is lazy he will not be accepted at his favorite college. Worry like this can lead a person to amazing luck. And worry is said to be detrimental if it can hinder someone from achieving progress, such as a husband who forbids his wife from doing self-development activities for fear that his wife will no longer respect and obey him if he progresses. Or a wife who forbids her husband from pursuing a scholarship abroad for fear that her husband will remarry if his career continues to develop. Worry like this can make adversity prolong.
How a person reacts to events that have happened and how he views the future greatly influences how he feels and acts in the present. Lamenting over mistakes, failures, or misfortunes that have happened and worrying about something that will not necessarily happen makes a person depressed and helpless to face the present and pessimistic in looking at the future, which in turn this pessimistic attitude will rob him of his great strength and become the main obstacle. for his progress.
All events that have happened to a person are not to be lamented, but accepted and then taken for granted as the most valuable and important lesson for his further development. Suffering is a method used by God in educating people to improve their life system, raise their enthusiasm, sharpen their intelligence so that they are tougher, more dynamic, and more reliable.
Accepting circumstances is the attitude of people whose souls are enlightened. It becomes the most effective therapy in overcoming despair. Unfortunately, most people get it wrong. This attitude of acceptance is only needed for everything that has happened, while the future must be addressed with hope, not worrying or worrying about it.
The essence of life is belief and hope. When a person hopes that his life will be better and he believes that God will fulfill his wishes, then he will become better, while if he always feels anxious and worried about his future, he allows his bad condition to continue for the rest of his life.
The real reality of life is what we are facing in the present. The past is impossible to return to, and the future when the time comes, it becomes the present. Our present state is the result of all the actions we have done in the past, and what we like and do in the present will have an effect on how we will be in the future. Therefore, the present is not a time for us to lament and complain, but a time for us to start acting to realize our hopes.
Hope is the attachment of a person's will to something he wants will happen in the future. With hope, the pessimistic attitude turns into optimism. Someone who hopes for something and is optimistic about being able to achieve it will try his best to realize his hopes. A person who hopes that his deeds will be accepted by God will try his best to improve the quality of his worship. A sinner who expects forgiveness from God. will repent of his bad deeds. A person who is struck by a disaster and hopes to get out of the disaster will try hard to overcome it. A student who hopes to become a class champion will try to make it happen by studying hard. Yes, hope makes life full of enthusiasm.
A person's enthusiasm is greatly influenced by his hope to move forward. The stronger a person's expectations about his future, the stronger his enthusiasm. On the other hand, the weaker the hope, the weaker the enthusiasm. Everyone should let his enthusiasm continue to grow so that with it he is determined to realize his hopes, and don't let disappointment and discouragement paralyze his enthusiasm.
Hope and enthusiasm must be built on solid foundations. The foundation in question is an awareness of all the shortcomings and weaknesses that exist in us and then we make both of them our strengths. Of course this is not an easy matter because in general people always try to cover up all the shortcomings that exist in themselves, especially for those who are infected with proud.
To raise this awareness, we should not count how much knowledge we already know and master, but think about how much knowledge we don't know and master. We should not count the number of good deeds we have done, but think of how many good deeds we have not done. We should not cover our ears from the criticism of others, but listen to them because criticism often helps us to see the shortcomings that exist in ourselves.
Departing from this awareness of imperfection, we move forward towards perfection. Starting from the realization that there is still a lot of knowledge that we have not mastered, we move forward towards the perfection of science by continuing to explore it. Starting from the realization that there are still many commands of God that we have not carried out and the many prohibitions that we have not been able to avoid, we move forward towards the perfection of worship and repentance. And from the awareness that there are still few friends we know, we move forward to a wider association.
Hope and enthusiasm are not owned by people who are engrossed in lamenting the unfortunate events they are experiencing and drowning in anxiety about events that are not necessarily going to happen. Hope and enthusiasm are also not shared by people who feel arrogant about their current situation. Hope and enthusiasm are only owned by people who can take lessons from every event that has been experienced in the past and are aware of the shortcomings that exist in themselves as a consideration for all their actions in the present for the sake of their future.
The right attitude is that we accept and are satisfied with what has happened and got, hope for a better future, and begin to act to realize those expectations with enthusiasm in the present.
Every day means a new life, happy for those who can fill today with knowledge and good deeds, not by lamenting the past and worrying about the future.
