Have you heard the song? The most valuable treasure... is family. Lately, I've been hooked on that song a lot. The song, in my opinion, is dangerous.

People then worship the family. As if the family was never wrong. People go blind in front of their families. Common sense is shrouded in a fog of emotion spread by television commercials and the shallow music industry.

Family Danger

Families can be very dangerous. The main source of mental health problems is the family. Husband or wife having an affair. Families break up, because of fighting over property, financial crisis, or just a misunderstanding.

Family can kill you. Family can make you sick. A friend said, we can get very sick, because our family hurts us. There are high hopes for the family which often ends in great misery.

Family is not the most valuable treasure. Family is often the biggest problem. We need clarity on this. Don't get caught up in the emotions created by blind markets and traditions.

Don't be too romantic to see family. Romance only gives a wrong view of family. Common sense and a critical attitude are still needed. Instead, we must find something far more valuable, than family.

The most precious treasure is our attention. It is rooted in life. It is also rooted in consciousness. Practicing mindfulness will change our whole life for the better.

Attention

There are five things to note. First, our concern is our world. What we pay attention to, that will fill our life. If our attention is on things that are disturbing, then our life will be restless.

If our attention is directed to the development of the mind, then the mind will develop. That is, the mind will be balanced and peaceful in all circumstances. We need to be aware of this. Once again, attention is the most valuable treasure, because it is our life.

Two, mindfulness is related to concentration. Without concentration, we will not be able to do anything. To study well, we need concentration. Likewise for work, so that they can sustain a decent life.

Three, not surprisingly, our attention becomes a commodity. Various companies try to grab our attention. Advertising is one way. Peeling superficial sensational news is another way. The attention-stealing industry (marketing) is a very large industry in the world.

Fourth, attention is the source of suffering, as well as the source of human happiness. The more attention is directed to destructive things, the more suffering arises. On the other hand, the more attention is directed to happy things, the more happiness comes. This is very simple, but often forgotten.

Five, then practicing mindfulness is something very important. Consciously, we put our attention on one point for a certain period of time. This will create calm and clarity. Our quality of life develops for the better, if we learn to exercise our mindfulness.

The highest is paying attention to attention itself. Attention becomes reflective. It becomes empty, without subject and object. Here and now, the ultimate freedom is at hand.

All challenges are then faced calmly. Family problems will never end. It always comes and goes. Pay attention to attention, and stay in that state as long as possible. Everything will be fine.
