Humans Change, VERY FAST
I like to smile when I see little children, sometimes thinking; "If they grow up, what kind of destiny will they tread?"
Life is always changing, changing too fast instead. Have we ever taken a moment to stare at the past? Staring at our childhood, looking back at the times when we were half-aged, staring at the times when we started to learn the meaning of maturity.
I just can't be an adult yet. Living in comfort makes me always want to be pampered, and one thing I realize is that it's too hard to leave that pampering.
There is an anecdote about consistency; Syahdan, once a criminal was confronted by the Judge, then the judge asked, "What is your crime?" and he replied "I stole the Judge". Then the judge again asked "How old are you?" and he answered "40 years". 5 years later it turned out that the criminal had relapsed and was arrested again. Before the same judge, the judge asked, "What is your crime this time?", then the criminal replied that he was stealing again. The judge kept asking, "How old are you now?" and he replied "40 years", 5 years have passed but he is still 40 years old. "Oh, 5 years ago you said that you were 40 years old, now you are also 40 years old. Don't play games with you !!!", then do you know what the criminal's answer was? "I am consistent, Mr. Judge".
It's like an anecdote that is too forced about consistency. Sometimes a person really has to be so consistent, but consistency is also sometimes really really not needed. Everyone has a place to stand. Just like fire needs oil to keep burning and not water. What happens if fire stands on water? I'm sure he will die. Sometimes our mistakes are so very simple, namely choosing the wrong footing.
Back to the original topic, talking about human changes that are so fast. But lucky those who change towards good, not towards evil.
Of course it is not foreign to us when we see our surroundings change. Change doesn't have to pass so slowly like an eroded sea, but also so fast like a tsunami that hits a country. Sometimes what we see fast is actually a long chain of a slow process. When we look at a tsunami that destroys a country, have we ever thought about the movement of the earth's plates that continued to occur before the stress was emitted? Sometimes we look so very short-sighted.
I remember a friend, for some reason it changed so quickly. Back when I was in high school, I looked at her as a person who was so istiqamah, truly hijaber, but when I started college, I saw her change so much, very, very drastically. Her clothes were so tight, even though she was still wearing the hijab, she was no longer a jilbaber. Hijab is no longer long and began to wear tight jeans.
Huff, so quickly the world changes. Some have changed physically, mentally, and even those that cannot be seen, but all of that has changed. Humans are in a process, are in an evolutionary environment to become perfect or even change in an evolution that becomes increasingly erratic.
I remember my cousin once told me. There was an ustazah on campus who mentored recitation events, but then the ustazah who was very anti-dating even tried to date. I don't know, is it he who is so intentional, the devil who is so loud in teasing, or the idol who is so good at gossiping, I don't know. In short, the ustazah was dating the man, then started walking together, seclusion. The latest news is that the ustazah has released her jilbaber status. She took off her proud wide veil, left her wide clothes, left her God and sold her to this world that will never last forever.
Well, that's how it is… humans change so fast, so fast. Hopefully a Baiquni will also be able to change to catch up with his lagging evolution, trying to catch up with his long-forgotten God.
God, I really have told this story. Please allow me to walk that path again, the path that is so close to You.
O human, there is nothing wrong with changing but if the change destroys you then consistency is much more beautiful. Sometimes our mistakes are very simple, which is to determine the wrong footing.
