Express Feelings
Holding back feelings can have a negative impact on mental health. Do not suppress the feelings or emotions that you feel. It's best to express your feelings in a positive way.
Retention of emotions is a condition that occurs when the mind tries to avoid, does not acknowledge, or cannot express emotions in an appropriate way, both consciously and unconsciously. For example the emotions of anger, frustration, sadness, fear, and disappointment.
Holding on to feelings will not make the heart feel relieved or the feeling will go away. On the other hand, these emotions can haunt and burden the mind, triggering a number of diseases such as stress, depression, anxiety, and a number of chronic diseases.
Be honest and at peace with yourself
Try asking yourself about the feelings you're feeling and what causes them to arise. Don't hide and avoid those feelings.
Try to be honest and accept yourself with grace. Accepting these feelings is important to understand them before figuring out the best solution for expressing them.
Tell someone you trust
Once you understand your feelings, try to find the best way to let them go. You can share your feelings with someone close to you or someone you trust. Storytelling can make the heart relieved and calmer. You can also talk to a counselor or psychologist.
Take advantage of hobbies
If you don't want to talk, doing a hobby can be an alternative. For example, listening to songs that match the heart, painting, writing, knitting, and so on. Expressing feelings for a hobby can increase the happy hormone, which is good for mental health.
