Health is the root of all happiness. Health awareness, doctors and medicine are needed to maintain good health. And medicine is the only controller of illness. Today, the pharmaceutical industry in Bangladesh is having a much better time than at any time in the past. The pharmaceutical industry of Bangladesh is capable of producing and marketing all the medicines required by the country. At present, about 24,000 brands of medicines are being produced in 256 factories in Bangladesh. Domestic companies are producing medicines and raw materials worth about Rs 25,000 crore a year. In this way, besides providing employment to 2 lakh people, the domestic companies are meeting about 98 percent of the demand for medicines in the country. Moreover, it is playing a huge role in the country's economy. Medicines produced in Bangladesh are earning a lot of foreign exchange by exporting to about 145 countries of the world including the United States. The demand and use of medicines produced in Bangladesh is increasing in the world market.
Where is the bad news in so much good news? At a time when the demand for medicines produced in Bangladesh is increasing in the world market, the opposite is true in the country's pharmaceutical market. Adulterated and counterfeit medicines are being produced in the domestic market, as a result of which the pharmaceutical industry and medical system are becoming increasingly unstable. Adulterated and counterfeit medicine is a great lightning signal for the development and expansion of this industry. According to statistics, the annual sales of adulterated and counterfeit medicines in the domestic market are around Rs 1.5 trillion. It can be easily inferred from the sale of huge amount of adulterated medicines that despite the reputation of the medicines produced in Bangladesh in the world market, extreme irregularities and corruption are going on in the domestic market. The lives of ordinary people are being endangered as a result of these adulterated and counterfeit medicines. As a result of adulterated medicine, the health risk and loss of life of the patient is also increasing. Selling adulterated drugs means cheating the consumer. As a result, the consumer suffers financial loss, emotional distress and unnecessary suffering instead of buying the product. As a result of using adulterated and counterfeit medicines, they are unknowingly prolonging their illness instead of recovering. It would be wrong to call adulterated and counterfeit medicine a 'death trap' for a sick person.
It is so harmful for us. public awareness have to increases & govt should take necessary steps to protect the adulteration.
